Hi lovely humans 👋

It's been quiet on here since May, and I want to be honest about why: the half-term workshops didn't go ahead — we just didn't have the numbers. It was disappointing, ngl, but also part of the process of building something new. Not every term will be full, and that's okay. 💜

Since then, life's been full in other ways. I was on stage in Wyrd Sisters with Llanyrafon Drama Group 🎭 — and I'm now prepping to direct their panto this winter, Alice in Wonderland. Honestly can't wait for that one.

I've also kept feeding my own theatre habit — 6 shows since I last posted here, from the West End to right here in Wales. Watching great work is basically research for what I bring back to DWH.

We're only two weeks into the summer holidays and already deep in adventure mode with my daughter, plus my mum's been visiting — proper full, happy summer energy.

And behind the scenes... I've been quietly cooking up something new for Drama With Heart involving birthday parties 👀 Felicity's was the very first test run this summer, and I can't wait to share more soon.

✨ Step into Shakespeare this May half-term! ✨

Drama With Heart is bringing A Midsummer Night’s Dream to life in two magical workshops at Shining Stars Music Academy, Blaenavon!

🧚 Ages 6–10 | 27 May | 12:00–15:00
Journey into an enchanted forest full of faeries and sprites! Through craft, movement, and language, young performers will explore the magic of Shakespeare’s most beloved world.

🎭 Ages 11–16 | 29 May | 12:00–15:00
Head into the woods and meet the gloriously chaotic Mechanicals! Older performers will get hands-on with Shakespeare’s text and staging in a session that’s as funny as it is creative.

Both workshops end with a short showcase at 2:45 so adults can enjoy the magic too! 🌟

An honest update from Drama With Heart 💜

Stories in the Spotlight isn’t running this spring — and while I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed, I’m already looking forward. That’s what drama teaches us, right? Adapt, improvise, and find the story in the moment. 🎭

So instead, I’m planning a one-off May half-term workshop — all the joy, play, and creativity of Drama With Heart packed into one brilliant session.

✨ World Theatre Day ✨

Today feels like the perfect moment to celebrate the theatre moments that stay with us forever…

So I’d love to hear from you —
💭 What’s a theatre moment you’ll never forget?

Here are three of mine, from different sides of the stage:

🎭 As an audience member:
Seeing Dracula just this week — I haven’t stopped thinking about it. The technical elements were mind-blowing, the level of craft was incredible, and the story spoke to me in a way I wasn’t expecting… but clearly needed.

🎭 As a performer:
Playing Smee in Peter Pan (2024).
The most FUN I’ve ever had on stage — just pure, joyful chaos.

🎭 As a practitioner:
Standing quietly to the side during a recent project working with adults who have experienced homelessness, watching participants step into the spotlight with confidence and pride.
That moment — seeing them shine — is something I hope I never forget.

✨ Because that’s what theatre gives us…
Moments that stay.
Moments of joy.
Moments of confidence.

💜 That’s exactly what Stories in the Spotlight is all about.
Creating those moments.
Building confidence.
Helping children find their voice — and giving them a space to shine.

🎭 I spent Monday evening in a London theatre watching something I genuinely didn’t have words for afterwards.

One performer. Every character. Two hours. A packed house of completely different people — different ages, different backgrounds, different reasons for being there — all holding their breath together.

That’s live theatre. It only exists in that moment. Every person brings their own history, their own heart — and for two hours you share something that can never be replicated. Everyone in that room saw the same thing. Everyone left carrying something different.

That’s why I do what I do.

Stories in the Spotlight start 17 April — ten sessions for children to find their voice, tell their stories, and discover what they’re capable of, live, in the room, together.
