Will be working on this today. My aim is to finish the carving and put down the last layer. I’d like, if the end result is good, to submit at least one of my relief prints to an open call that would mean, if accepted, going to London! But I’m getting ahead of myself. The final say in the matter will be whether the cat, my harshest critic, deems the work acceptable. She’s monitoring it but keeping her cards close to her chest at the moment, so…
I think carving is my favourite part of the process. It’s completely absorbing and I love seeing the new, clean block being exposed. And the cut blocks are as pleasing to look at as the prints are, in my view. I don’t know if I’ll use these soft blocks again because actual lino, unsurprisingly, cuts so much better (yes, yes, this workperson is blaming their tools). But I also get an aesthetic kick out of those contrasting blues so maybe I’ll keep some to hand for less complex pieces.
