The Arts Council of Wales have announced a series of actions designed to support and strengthen the artform of Dance in Wales.

Kathak dance classes for children and adults starting at Rubicon this coming Friday June 5th.

KATHAK DANCE CLASSES FOR CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULTS LED BY ISHIKA BISWAS

WEEKLY SESSIONS FROM FRIDAY JUNE 5TH - FRIDAY JULY 17TH

CLASSES WILL TAKE PLACE AT RUBICON DANCE, NORA STREET, ADAMSDOWN, CARDIFF, CF24 1ND.

KATHAK JUNIORS (please note that the minimum age is 4 years old for this class) – 5.30-6.15pm - £5.00 per person per class

A joyful introduction to Kathak for younger dancers, exploring rhythm, storytelling, expression, footwork and movement through a playful and engaging approach. The class nurtures creativity, confidence and musicality while introducing students to one of the major classical dance traditions of South Asia.

KATHAK ADULTS – 6.15-7.15pm - £6.50 per person per class

An open-level Kathak class exploring rhythm, technique, movement vocabulary, expression and repertoire within the North Indian classical dance tradition. The sessions combine structured training with creative exploration, offering participants a grounding in Kathak while developing coordination, musicality and embodied storytelling.

Please note if you haven’t attended Kathak Dance with Ishika before now then you are entitled to one FREE taster class.

We are currently at £750 and our target is £2,500.

We thought it was time to share another 50th birthday message for Rubicon.

This one is from Rebecca Killick who danced with Rubicon for many years on our young dancer programme and is now an actress working in Wales and beyond.

A huge thanks to Ishika Biswas for taking the time to share with us her very first Welsh language support session through Wales Wide Training Programme with the fabulous and very supportive Jên Angharad

We shall be offering further one to one Welsh Language Support Sessions for absolute beginners through to those who are more confident in using Welsh language in their sessions/work in the dance sector across Wales.

We will be in touch via email with possible dates and times and will also post on the Wales Wide Training Programme page.

We have officially launched Freelance Fridays at Rubicon Dance!!!

This is aimed at artists and/or practitioners who are freelance and are not currently involved in funded projects. We are offering studio space free of charge.

Today we welcomed back Cerys Lewis who used our black box studio space to move and to try out some of her own choreographic ideas.

It was particularly special to have Cerys back in Rubicon as she danced with us at our studios in Adamsdown and in her primary school for many years and from a very young age. She then went on to further training across Cardiff and beyond before starting full time training at Rambert in London where she graduated last July 2025.

In the words of Cerys "Ah wow - it's so amazing to be back in Rubicon and to have the luxury of a studio to myself!!!"
