Still Life

Vases are more than just a vessel; they symbolise shelter, protection, security and motherhood.

Flowers remind us that beauty fades and all living things will die.

Fruit represents abundance, nourishment and the cyclical nature of life.

Feathers represent freedom, symbolising the ability to soar and rise above constraints.

One of the questions we’re asked at art school is, ‘What are you trying to say?’ - and many of us spend our creative lives working it out! My work is autobiographical and driven by an ongoing exploration of colour. I aim for uplifting - but there’s often a quiet pathos beneath it. Themes return instinctively, and it’s only in hindsight that I see the understated voice running through it. This is one of those ongoing series, all acrylic on paper.
