Here we are, moving into summer, the hills are fully green, and the swifts are in the air. Taking the lead from their exuberant swoops and dives we are swooping into the 4th, and last (for now), Cylch Sir / Shire Circle. The previous three sessions have bought together performing artists from Wales and further afield such as Japan, California and Czech Republic. Artists have shared thoughts and ideas on their current artistic needs, positives from the pandemic, sharing work, both current and planned, in the “Artistic Here & Now”. The sessions led to small groups being formed so that artists are supported in the areas the group put forward as being important to them: connection, funding, collaboration, space and mentoring.

Simon Whitehead’s workshop "Wander" will will begin by orienting to the vagus nerve. The longest pair of nerves in the human body the vagus is both a sensory and motor nerve and it is vital for keeping our bodies healthy. It is an essential part of the parasympathetic nervous system and responsible for calming organs after the stressed 'fight-or-flight' adrenaline response to danger. Vagus is Latin for ‘wandering’ and these nerve fibres rove through the body connecting brain with the digestive tract, spine and organs, including fibres that relate to speech, eye contact and tune us to our environment. Following a visualisation of our own vagus and taking this into movement we will then prepare to take a drift (a wander) outdoors, responding to what we find there. A drift is a way to move, carried by outside forces. Indeterminate, the focus of a drift is to allow yourself to be guided by the elements that you encounter in your environment as you move through it.
We will then return to share our experiences with each other.

Hwyl + we look forward to seeing you there!

Hello! Shwmae! My name is Simon. I'm a movement artist and cranial sacral therapist based in North Pembrokeshire. I'm looking forward to meeting you on the 19th June for the next of the series of the Cylch Sir's workshops hosted by Maggi and Tiago. We'll spend a little bit of time in the session orienting to our vagus nerves, the longest nerves in the body, which very much allow us to kind of self-regulate...come back to balance and health and particularly perhaps relevant for the times...and also allows us to understand that the nervous system isn't a discrete thing but it's very much about how we are always in an environment and the environment is always passing through us. We'll also spend a bit of time outdoors wherever we are and we'll introduce some scores that will take us into movement and I very much look forward to meeting you and the opportunity to share together. Bye for now. Please book your FREE ticket here: https://www.interculturalroots.org/product/cylch-sir-shire-circle-with-simon-whitehead
