Work in progress. This is a study for a painting inspired by a postcard of my local area of Riverside in Cardiff which was flooded in the 70's. Images of recent floods in Bangladesh show desperate people trying to salvage a few belongings, and I've transported them to Cardiff. The Brains Beer advert on the bridge couldn't be anywhere else but Cardiff, and the figure on the billboard warning of the end of the world is from a sketch made of a Cardiff Queen Street preacher

A reworking of Picasso's Guernica painting which showed the aftermath of fascist bombing of the Basque town in 1936. I was hoping to capture a little of the current horror of Israeli bombing in Gaza - but I'm unhappy with it, our sensibilities have changed and what may have been acceptable in the 1930's doesn't cut it anymore. I plan to try this again, but this time instead of depicting Palestinians as passive victims I want to show something of their strength and resilience in the face of such utter devastation.
