This one still spreading, might do a vid, rip capn
In 2016 a strange naked lump of a man with a quiff and specs, wrapped in a towel gripping a re**er and a can of Special Brew was shuffling round my flat. I recognised him as the one and only Mr knives of whom id seen at festivals over the years, with his beat up guitar, making thousands of peeps sing a long and laugh their asses off. He was stopping off whilst on tour with my flat mate at the time, Cosmo.
I coaxed him into my bedroom with a crumpet.
He ranted down the mic for half hour to some of my beats, spewing all sorts of nonsense, and tangents and we laughed at the complete randomness....
the passive smoking slowly got to me and my brain morphed into an omelette as Chris pontificated about how smug dinosaurs were. He headed back to cosmo and left me with psychosis and a bank of vocal samples.
Over the next few months I made two songs out of the ramblings, 'middle-class white kids at festivals' and 'electric distortion', both of which we released back then, and we talked of doing a third. There was a theme in amongst the same recording, about attention seekers and the their cringey schmoozing and self victimising.. a trait id also seen in some folks id met along my musical travels.
I never got around to finishing it, but Chris always said to get it done and get it out, as he loved the other ones, despite having zero recollection of recording the vocals or what he said.
After hearing that he left us, recently, I finished up the tune, I'm gutted he never got to hear it, but chuffed many peeps are liking it and encouraged me to put it out. So that's it, that's my little homage to The Captain Hotknives, who i didn't know well, but spoke to occasionally over the years, enjoyed his company and shows at many festivals and had the pleasure to create some music with. Bless that man. Never seen such an outpouring of love, for a gentle soul who touched so many. And made everyone smile and laugh like no one else could.
