What a fabulous afternoon Penylan Singers had singing at the 'Forget Me Not Cafe' St Edward's Church, Cardiff last Tuesday. 'Well Done' everyone, a lovely mix of songs from madrigals ('Never Weather Beaten Sail' and 'Now is the Month of Maying') to musicals 'Oliver' and the songs of Irving Berlin, and much more in between.

I can't believe we're at the end of the Autumn Term!
This week we had fun sharing some of our Christmas songs at the 'Forget Me Not Cafe/Support Group' St Edward's Church, Cardiff and had even more fun leading a sing-a-long of carols.
Next Thursday we have our informal 'Christmas Carol Concert and Sing-a-long' . If you are interested in joining a choir in 2026, come along on the 18th December, you can meet join in the Christmas sing-a-long and have a chat to us. See if we are a good fit for you. What have you got to lose?

Are you looking for a relaxed, no pressure, daytime choir to sing with ? Why not give Penylan Singers in Penylan a try! There are TWO FREE sessions to see if we are the choir for you.
Who are The Penylan Singers?
Penylan Singers is a small choir. We have the most fun just singing together at rehearsals on Thursday afternoons 1.30-3.30pm. We are not big on concerts, or practising at home - we are not looking to perform at the Albert Hall! Being in a choir is about singing with each other, having a cuppa and a chat. However, we all feel so much better after a good blast of the vocal chords!
We do like to share our enjoyment of singing and to spread some of that joy by performing Christmas and Summer Concerts for family and friends at St Edward's Church, Cardiff where we rehearse.
In addition, we have fun singing at the church once a term for the Forget Me Not Cafe and Support Group, ending the performance with a sing-a-long. We also have a great deal of pleasure performing at local residential and care homes.
My name is Jayne Thomas and I am the MD. I teach the songs, leading from the keyboard. I usually accompany the choir in concerts, but sometimes we have an accompanist and I will conduct.
The songs we sing are in 2, 3 and sometimes 4 parts. We do use sheet music, but don't be put off by that, not everyone can read the music. Just follow the words and the 'ups and downs' - we'll help with the rest!
What type of music do we sing? All sorts, I try to cover most genres of music. To give you an idea of our repertoire, here is a list of some of the songs we performed at our Summer Concert ; madrigals, 'I Will Give My Love an Apple' & ' Follow Me'; folk songs, 'Lass of Richmond Hill' & 'Shoshone Love Song'; popular songs, ' Sound of Silence' & 'The Lady is a Tramp', songs from the shows 'Oliver Medley', 'Rags to Ritz' and a medley of TV theme tunes. We sing new pieces specially written for choirs as well as arrangements of classical music. There is something for everyone. You won't like all the songs, but you’ll enjoy the singing!

Thank you to the lovely Penylan Singers for another fabulous year.
We had a three very joyous end-of-term concerts.
It's always a pleasure to be invited to sing for the 'Forget Me Not Cafe and Support' group at St Edward's Church, Cardiff. We thoroughly enjoy the sing-a-long afterwards too. Next we had our 'Summer Concert' for Family and Friends with guest soloist Gareth Blake, donations made to South Wales Goalball. Lastly we visited our friends at Thomas Court, giving a concert and sing-a-long, followed by refreshments at the Juno Lounge. Being in a choir is much more than just singing! There's always tea, cake and chatter!
