🏰 What a magnificent day of medieval merriment we had on Saturday 4 July! This year the Canterbury BID Medieval Pageant took the form of a stage show and demonstration arena in St George’s Street.

🎶 We enjoyed historic music, singing, dancing, plays and gasp-worthy battle displays, as well as a fabulous community ‘mini parade’, and selfies in stocks. Even the Lord Mayor joined in a merry jig and a fearsome fight as our legendary giants looked on!

⛺️ The Family Trail was a stomping success, with 21 stops in and around the city centre including medieval encampments, crafts, reenactments, stone-carving and more.

🪡 This year’s theme was the Bayeux Tapestry, which arrives in England later this year and is believed to have been stitched here in Canterbury - a new lifesize Canterbury Paper Tapestry was officially begun at this year’s event, to be unveiled next year.

🏰 Join us on Saturday 4 July for our legendary Medieval Pageant & Family Trail! This year's theme is the Bayeux Tapestry, which is coming to England this September - thought to have been stitched here in Canterbury!

🤗 To celebrate our connection with this medieval masterpiece, we're inviting you all to get involved in creating a special Canterbury Paper Tapestry at 3 stops on the trail:

🍟 The original Bayeux Tapestry includes food and drink enjoyed by the Normans but which modern meals should be in our new version? Come to St Thomas' Church Hall in Burgate to help decide!

🐈‍⬛ Did you know 506 animals and birds appear in the Bayeux Tapestry? Head to St Mildred's Church in Church Lane to add your favourite animals to the paper tapestry!

🎾 Would you like to add your favourite sports and hobbies? Drop by St Martin's Church in North Holmes Road to help us add them in.

📍 Pick up a trail map from any stop, collect 5 or more stamps and claim a FREE chocolate coin!

🛡️ Draw your own banners, shields and regalia and enjoy face painting and balloon modelling at the Kent Museum of Freemasonry trail stop.

🪶 Was the Bayeux Tapestry made at St Augustine’s Abbey? Visit the trail stop to find out more and to try medieval board games, wheat weaving and calligraphy.

🧵 Pop in to the Canterbury Cathedral Visitor Centre to make your own tapestry square based on the Bayeux Tapestry, and learn about the ‘Holy Stitchers’.

🤳🏽 Head to Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies in Northgate to design a heraldic shield, dress up, and pose for a selfie with the ‘Bayeux Tapestry’!

💌 How do you make a medieval seal? Come to the Westgate Towers trail stop to find out and to create your own.

🎨 Drop in to St Dunstan’s Church and create your own Norman badge to wear on your trail adventure.
