Many students in these photos didn't know each other three months ago. A few walked in alone in the first week, uncertain about where to stand or whom to speak with.

And this is the lovely part! You don't turn up with a group of friends already in place. You leave with one.

It happens somewhere in the run of scene work and warm-up games, without anyone really deciding it should.

Six barriers that stop people acting, and every single one of them has an answer.

We hear these all the time. From people at seminar sessions, from messages in our inbox, from conversations after class. The same things come up again and again, in slightly different words each time, but always the same idea.

We wanted to put them all in one place, because most people think their reason is the one that makes them different.

It usually isn't.

Someone else in this comments section has thought exactly the same thing.

So swipe through the whole set. Some of these might sound familiar. Some might sound like something you said to yourself last year, or last week, or this morning before you opened social media.

Meet one of our Colchester tutors, Bill Herring.

Billy Herring has a BA and an MA in Acting from Northampton University. He was lucky enough to make his professional debut straight from university in the 2004 Musical 'Common Threads' at the Lillian Baylis Theatre, Sadler's Wells, before spending a year on tour performing 'Peter Pan' and 'Charlotte's Webb' respectively. Since making his professional debut Billy has continued to develop his practice and now works predominantly on screen and doing voiceover work.

Billy gained his QTS in 2008 and spent 13 years working in secondary schools around Essex and Suffolk. As well as being a Head of Year, Billy has taught drama, screen-acting, voice acting, mask theatre, devising, physical theatre and many more aspects of the art form. Billy's favourite part of teaching is giving everyone an opportunity to succeed through support, guidance and positivity.

Our aim at TAL is to provide a safe, supportive space for you to develop your craft.

No matter where you are on your acting journey.

Our students come to us, at different stages in their life, some just finishing Uni, some just want an evening away from the kids and some want to spice up their retirement.

Our classes are for everyone, any creed, we want to make actor training from industry professionals as accessible as possible.

Nobody sets out to become an actor at 50.

But what if that itch never goes away?
Something inside you that has always wanted to do this?

It could be that life took you down a different path, it could be that you were told to "get a proper job"

But we know that that desire to express yourself and connect to this craft doesn't really ever go away.

And the fantastic thing about acting is that there is no age limit - there are parts for all ages!
It's never too late.

We're not building competitors at TAL. We're building people who want to see each other do well, who celebrate someone else's breakthrough as much as their own.
