What even is Spotlight? And why you should know about it!

Spotlight’s search functions allow casting professionals to efficiently find and filter talent based on specific criteria such as skills, appearance, training, and experience.

For you as the actor, a Spotlight profile is a place where you can upload and showcase essential career materials, including:

Professional Headshots

Comprehensive CVs: Details of your training and professional credits.

Showreels and Voice Clips

This platform significantly enhances your visibility, making you readily available to those in the position to offer professional work.

Furthermore, Spotlight membership grants access to exclusive casting calls and allows actors (or their agents) to directly submit for roles.

It is crucial to remember that achieving Spotlight membership is a significant milestone, it is the doorway to the industry, not the final destination. The craft of acting is a skill that requires perpetual refinement and dedication.

Meet our Bristol tutor, Clive Brunt.

Clive Brunt is a professional actor who trained at the National Youth Theatre and East 15 Acting School with an established career across film, television and theatre.

His screen work spans major studio productions, acclaimed independent films and BAFTA award winning dramas.

What Clive loves most about acting is the moment when the world falls away - when you’re no longer performing for an audience, but simply living truthfully in the moment with the other actors. That feeling is the same whether he’s in a small rehearsal room or standing on a large film set, and it never loses its charge. It’s that buzz, that sense of absolute presence and connection, that he is passionate about helping others discover in his classes.

Curious to know what our showcases entail?

Our end-of-term showcases are a celebration of your journey as an actor. They are an extension of the classroom where you can share your work.

They allow students to gain the courage to perform in front of others and prove to themselves that they can do it.

The scripts vary wildly and advanced students also use classical literature such as Shakespeare.

You will typically perform one or two scenes, duologues with your scene partner or monologues performed alone.

This event marks the culmination of weeks of hard work, providing a platform for you to present your skills in front of a live audience, including members of the school, friends and family.

Here is a photo from our Level 4 term studying the plays of Leo Butler.

Leo came to our Level 4 class for a talk and Q&A, and below is the feedback Leo Butler gave on Isabelle's students' work on the showcase.

"I absolutely loved watching the scenes, the actors each brought something raw and interesting and surprising to the parts (which is a big thumbs up for me). Very moving, actually. I particularly enjoyed scenes from plays I haven’t seen/heard in a long, long time - Juicy Fruits/Devil/Made of Stone. But, on all the scenes, I could see how much work they’d done to bring the characters & subtext alive - which was really impressive, especially when you’re dealing with snippets/extracts. I guess you must have really helped steer/guide them through the characters and text in rehearsal. And I loved the gender reversals too. Some really talented actors you have there. I was incredibly flattered." - Leo Butler.

So happy our students had this opportunity.
