How do you relax when life gets hectic?

Finding time to curl up with a good book works for me, and Ada here, courtesy of graphic artist 📚

I suspect Ada is one of those mad types who relaxes by working... complex algorithms and equations in the bath, anyone? 🤨

We're so lucky to have a composer of Philip Henderson's calibre on board!

His broad musical background includes composing radio jingles 🎙️, working with Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett on the Feedback 86 album 🎸, composing and conducting for the International Schools Choral Music Society in Shanghai 2015 🇨🇳, and an extended work for cello and orchestra On the Beach with Alice, performed by Jacob Shaw in Beijing. 🎶

His theatre work has been equally successful with a six-month run of The Far Pavilions at The Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End, and his new song Brighter by Far with Prague Philharmonic Orchestra performed by Olivier award-winning actor Paul Baker in the West End and on Broadway. 🎤

Musical theatre as a punishment?! Not for us musical theatre lovers, us board-treading, greasepaint-wearing singers of show tunes!! 😁

Give me Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Lerner & Lowe and Rogers & Hammerstein!

Give me originals, revivals, jukebox musicals and screen-to-stage shows (well, maybe fewer of those!)

Unlike writer Gail Honeyman's character, Eleanor Oliphant, musicals are top of my genre list. Musical show tunes are more than just song and dance, they tell stories and advance the plot. They tell more in song than a character can do in spoken word. These are songs for when words aren't enough.

But following Eleanor's lead, what form of musical theatre would be punishment for you?! Name and shame your most-hated shows and songs!!

Seeing these kids' joy and enthusiasm for performing this piece is what musical theatre is all about - inspiring people with stories that speak to them, and watching performers develop their own creative talent on stage.

I wrote this song years ago, way back in the early development of Ada's Algorithm in about 2015, and since we shared it with for their workshop, the video has been doing rather well on YouTube! 👏

How many hits is it at now?! More than six million?!

You'll recognise Michael Karl-Lewis from our demos on YouTube and our website playing opposite Laura Barnard 🎥

Michael's an experienced stage performer and during training played roles in Honk, Into the Woods and Crazy for You. He was also a finalist of the Young Scottish Musical Theatre Performer of the Year Award and the Ian Fleming Award.

Since graduation he has taken the lead role in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock and was lead vocalist on the prestigious Viking Sky Cruise line. ⛴️

It's my turn in the Spotlight On series, counting myself a key member of the Ada's Algorithm team.⭐

I've heard some old-school producers question the younger generation including 'creative' in their title as producers, but I use it to reflect how involved I am with the work my clients create. As creative producer on Ada's Algorithm I've offered treatments, dramaturgy and script advice, as well as the more 'producery' aspects of budgeting, marketing and talking with venues. 🎟️

I trained as a performer with the Royal Academy of Dance and at Bird College, and also with the Royal Opera House and Graeae. I've performed on stage and screen, hold a PhD in performing arts and my work has been featured in the Canterbury Festival. I now partner with several independent dance and theatre companies to develop their work.

Next up is composer and musician Jenni Pinnock, bringing her passion for music to the Ada's Algorithm team.

Jenni studied at Kingston University and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (becoming something of a theme in our creative team and cast!). 🎭

She has been funded by Arts Council England for her collaboration with writer Graham Palmer to create Cracked Voices, and was part of Quangle Wangle Choir's Adopt a Composer scheme in 2013-2014. 🎤🎹

What ideas do people have about you that you'd love to challenge? 🤔

What would you achieve if there was greater gender parity? 👫

For this year's International Women's Day theme, 'Choose to Challenge', we're remembering Ada Lovelace, a woman who challenged ideas about women's roles in society in the 1800s.

Ada's pioneering work in mathematics, science, engineering and computer design broke down barriers and challenged expectations of what women could do with their lives, when gender roles were far stricter than today.

Self belief can drive us to achieve great things, and Ada had it in spades! ♠️

Ada's Algorithm follows the story of an extraordinary woman whose self-belief drove her to follow her ambitions.

Introducing our composer James Taylor for the next in our Spotlight On series.

As an Oxford graduate and with a diploma in singing, James brings his broad ranging musical experience to our creative team. 🎶

James has been writing songs for over 30 years across a wide range of genres, and is also a professional pianist, keyboard player, guitarist and bassist. 🎹🎸

He is a regular in the Kent music scene playing in nine bands and singing in two highly regarded choirs.🎤
