Our youngest artist, 13 year old Samuel from Kenya!

Title: At the Foot of the Cross
Artist: Samuel (Age 13, Nairobi, Kenya)
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 30 x 40 cm
Price: £150

Description:
Three crosses stand silhouetted against a radiant dawn, where deep shadows meet a sky alive with warmth and light. The rising sun symbolises hope, redemption, and the triumph of light over darkness. Set against layered hills, the composition invites a quiet moment of reflection at the foot of the cross, where sacrifice meets grace and new beginnings emerge.

About the Artist:
Samuel is a 13-year-old student currently in junior high school in Nairobi, Kenya. His work is inspired by both his environment and his faith, and he has a natural ability to express powerful themes through colour and composition. Balancing school with his growing passion for art, Samuel is already developing a distinctive voice, creating pieces that carry both meaning and emotional depth at a remarkably young age.

Although the exhibition has finished, we are allowing the opportunity for the public to still purchase this piece over the next couple weeks.

And that’s a wrap on our large exhibition, Art at St Paul’s. It was a superb weekend, with so many visitors and a lot of artwork sold.

Firstly, I would like to thank our wonderful artists, who contributed around 200 artworks to this space. I am so proud of the diversity we had here and the sheer range of work on display. Having run galleries and exhibitions in Norfolk, I was really keen to organise something in this stunning 19th-century church and bring a community of creatives together.

I am extremely grateful to our beautifully talented musicians for performing at our private view on Friday night - Kazuki on the violin and Victoria on the piano. It truly was an honour to hear you.

Thank you also to everyone who supported us, shared our event and artworks, and visited over the three days. We received wonderful compliments on the artwork and the curation of the event, and I look forward to hopefully organising another one in the future.

Many people voted for their favourite artwork, and there will be a People’s Choice Award announced this week, as well as a Curator’s Choice Award.

I will continue to share and promote artwork featured in the exhibition so that those who may not have had a chance to attend can still appreciate it or potentially purchase pieces through the artists.

Thanks again to everyone - I am so pleased with what a success it was!

Emily

“I am an abstract painter based in Oslo, Norway, working within the language of abstract expressionism.

I was born and raised in Kazakhstan, where I spent my childhood and school years. I was later educated in Russia, and for the past 20+ years I have been living in Norway. Alongside this, I have travelled extensively, and these experiences of different environments, light, and atmosphere have shaped the way I perceive and work with color.

My work grows out of memory, especially warm, early impressions - light, air, fragments of landscape, and emotional states that remain without fixed form. Over time, this lived experience naturally led me to abstraction.

Light and color are central to my practice. I am particularly interested in how color carries emotion - how it moves, softens, intensifies, and creates space. I work intuitively, building layered surfaces where gesture and texture remain visible, allowing the painting to evolve through process rather than pre-defined composition.

I hold a PhD in biology, which informs my sensitivity to observation, structure, and subtle relationships within a surface. This scientific background, combined with an intuitive approach to painting, shapes the balance in my work between control and freedom.

My work has been exhibited in group exhibitions in Oslo, and I maintain an active online presence through international platforms. Recently, I participated in Art Nordic in Copenhagen, where my work was successfully exhibited and sold.”

“A short course at the London School of Mosaics ignited a passion for mosaic art and a move from London to Cambridge, five years ago, gave me the time, space and inspiration to be able to develop my practice. Using a mixture of hand-cut ceramic and glass tiles, with some found bits and pieces, I create designs that spring from my response to the natural world. I particularly enjoy turning unwanted pieces of furniture (thank you, Freecycle!), wood offcuts and old mats into household objects that are not only beautiful but are designed to be used. The two pieces I decided to submit for the exhibition are examples of this philosophy.

The fish on the small side table are more stylised, surrounded by a ring of sea glass stones, collected from beaches on the East coast.”

“I’m a Cambridge-based artist, and my work is inspired by moments of quiet beauty, memory, and atmosphere. I paint primarily in acrylics, focusing on landscapes, city scenes, and places that hold emotional resonance, whether it’s the glow of evening light on water, the character of old streets, or the changing mood of the sky.

With over 25 years in education, I bring a reflective and thoughtful approach to my painting. I enjoy balancing loose, expressive brushwork with structure and detail. Light is central to my work—the subtle glow of evening and the way it quietly reshapes a scene into something more atmospheric and reflective.

My aim is to create pieces that not only capture a place, but also a feeling—something familiar, calm, and lasting. I want my paintings to be lived with, to bring a sense of atmosphere into a space, and to quietly draw the viewer back again and again.
Alongside my own painting, I run Sip & Paint events through PopArtistry, sharing my passion for art in a relaxed, social setting. That connection with people is central to what I do—art should feel accessible, enjoyable, and meaningful.”

"I lived in France for over twenty years (I recently returned to the UK), so my artwork is mostly inspired by the elegance, fashion and other decorative arts of Parisian culture from the belle epoque up until the 1950s. My artwork and limited edition prints were sold from my ex-partner’s gallery/boutique in Nice to clients including Italian hotel chain, Baglioni. I am currently exhibiting my paintings at the 'Gallery Above' in Linton, Cambridge, and I'm looking forward to exhibiting at St Paul’s, not forgetting at other exhibitions and events throughout the year!"

Gouache paint and collage

Liz Anelli once had a job dusting dinosaurs at London’s Natural History Museum. Nowadays she draws every day and illustrates picture books, combining collage, printmaking and paint into her artworks. Her books for children have collected numerous short-listings and awards. Liz also creates quirky illustrated maps. Having spent ten glorious years in Australia, she and her husband now live in Cambridge, England.

The artwork, Seed To Sky, is a spread from her recent non-fiction picture book about life in the Daintree Rainforest of Northern Australia and is published by Walker Books Australia.
In the oldest rainforest on Earth, on the oldest continent, a seed falls to the ground. Over hundreds of years, the seed will grow into a sapling reaching for the sunlight, to become a tree towering above the rainforest canopy. Generations of insects, butterflies, bird, lizards, snakes and an abundance of native wildlife will bear witness to the magnificent Bull Kauri pine…
