HATS is a wonderful society that can makes a wide range of creative endeavours possible. If you would like to apply to be a part of this years committee, send an email to [email protected] answering the following questions before 16th October.

!!! JOY FOREVER by Maddie Lynes released today !!!

A brilliant radio play that welcomes the listener into an intimate dialogue between brother and sister, who reforge a connection.

Starring Jemima Langdon as Chloe and Jack Medlin as Tom.

This is a truly wonderful piece of work and we can't wait for you to hear it!

After much deliberation and reading through a range of brilliant pieces of new writing, HATS distributed its prizes!!!!

First place to Don't interrupt me by Claudia Vyvyan
(An excellent, inventive and moving piece following a girl, who tries to get over a breakup by imagining and re-imagining scenarios about her ex in her head)

Second place to Joy Forever by Maddie Lynes
( An excellent, witty and intimate piece following a conversation between two siblings in their 20s, finding a way to keep living with joy while recognising the difficulties of life)

Third place to Blue Lips by Jonathan Powell
(An excellent, dark and enticing piece creating a cruel and compelling dystopian world)

We wish we could give more prizes. Over the next weeks these pieces and 11 others will be made into radio plays and released on this page. We are deeply excited to begin this process!

We are opening up applications for sound editors. Please send an email to [email protected] by Friday 12th of March expressing interest in this role.

*** !!! Applications open to direct or act in HATS new writing radio plays!!! ***

HATS committee is currently in the process of reading through submissions to the new writing competition. We are now looking for actors and directors to bring these brilliant pieces of new writing to life, in the last weeks of term.

If you are interested in acting, please send an email to [email protected] with a recording of you reading a minimum of five verses from the poem 'As I Walked Out One Evening.' (just to get a sense of your voice, can be done very simply as long as is clear)

Why you are interested in being involved in this particular project?
What do you think will be essential to bringing these pieces to life on the radio with zoom rehearsals?

Emails in by Thursday 4th March.- We recognise that this is a very quick turn around so please do not agonise over the applications and message if you are having any trouble. We want to get a general sense of how much interest there is and we want to involve as many people as possible.

Second prize: Β£50
Third prize: Β£30

Each of these scripts will be made into radio plays in the last few weeks of lent term and may be performed or further developed during the HATS arts festival in Easter term.

A massive thank you to everyone who performed and everyone who came to watch! We felt very lucky to create and share bold, honest and hopeful stories at the end of such a strange term. We are very excited for where all this material may go next!

Are you looking for something fun and exciting to take part in during lockdown? Homerton's Drama Society (HATS) is putting on a variety show after lockdown to showcase all the incredible talent we have at Homerton. Whether you want to act, direct or write, this will be a great way for you to be creative during lockdown and maybe meet some new people! We hope to get as many as you involved as possible and all come together to put on an amazing night at the end of term. No experience needed and open to everyone, plus we will provide some workshops to help you out in anyway. If you want to take part, please fill out the google form by Thursday 12th November so we can get some groups of you together and start working on it.
