It's been 2 years since I last posted...oops!
I have completed 3 shows for St Neots Players, at least 3 shows for Peppercorns, and a three-day music festival in St Ives.
Although An Inspector Calls was fun and a personal success, I haven't done any lighting for St Neots Players since, opting to assist the main lighting guy instead.
Peppercorns has been great, helping to produce backdrops and sets for various shows and workshops and either supervising or doing the lighting for the shows, the favourite being Our Finest Hour, one of my favourite shows, which I lit entirely with generics rather than the usual LED lighting we tend to have for shows. Two of the gel choices were a bit of a mistake, however it still looked the part and I'm happy with it. We have since rerigged (again) and now have a nice new lighting desk (A Zero 88 Frog) which controls most of the rig, or at least most of the lights I actually want to use (who uses Tri-floods that uplight the back of the stage at foot level?).
The music festival, Kingstock, was a fantastic experience. Helping to build the stage, rig the lights, and then control them for an evening performance was brilliant. Had I had a little more confidence in the fact we were using beta software I may have tried another evening set. The software in question was an updated version of Chameleon, a piece of software I had used a few years previous at Shuttleworth. It had a few issues with bits I was trying to do and so therefore crashed but otherwise it was fantastic.
This year I've got the first St Neots Players show of the year, where I will once again be assisting the lighting technician. The show in question is Agatha Christie's A Murder is Announced. The most exciting part so far is that we have a nice new proper set, which is refreshing after a few years of painted drapes and mostly props. It's the dress rehearsal tonight so I'll take a cheeky pic.
I may be helping out with Kingstock again this year, in a new location, however I'm not sure if I will be able to make it. We shall see.
