Cambridge Emerging Markets Society Our own experiences tell us that intercultural communication is not at all easy. That’s why we initiated CEMS – Cambridge University Emerging Markets Society.

Misunderstanding, language barriers, cultural shock and so on, we went through all these unpleasant feelings of frustration as we first came to UK. With the support from our friends and teachers, we have grown accustomed to the different culture, we understand and accept alternative views and approaches positively and make friends with local people. At the same time, we realize how little local pe

ople here in UK know about China or other countries in emerging markets. We are often asked whether Chinese citizens are allowed to have more than one baby, whether there are no beggars in socialist counties, whether China and India will be the future superpowers. We see big question marks between each side, which may lead to suspicion, distrust, prejudice and even hostility. More efforts should and must be paid to open dialogue and encourage interaction.
