Fitz Music Society

Fitz Music Society Fitz Music Society is your first stop for updates on all things musical happening in college, from concerts in the chapel to live music nights in the bar.

Fitz Music Society is a group that celebrates the role music plays in the life of college. Fitz has an thriving music scene which is one of the most active of any of the Cambridge colleges. Two acapella groups, The Sirens and Fitz Barbershop, are based in college, along with a blossoming chapel choir, a ceilidh band, our resident jazz band Fitz Swing, and our very own saxophone quartet. Fitz is th

e only college with resident chamber opera (Fitzwilliam Chamber Opera) and string quartet- the world-famous Fitzwilliam String Quartet. The Music Society hosts and promotes events throughout the year, opening with our annual Freshers' Concert and culminating in our annual Garden Party. There are regular concerts in the auditorium, choral evensong takes place in the chapel every Sunday, and workshops are held throughout the year. With so much going on, you simply can't afford to miss out! If you have a musical event you would like help promoting, contact our Publicity Officer Anna on [email protected]. The Music Society also supports concerts and musical events throughout Cambridge, such as a highly successful performance of Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius", conducted by Adrian Partington and organised by a first year Fitz music student, and the world premiere of former student Llaim Paterson's opera "The Killing Stone", performed by Fitzwilliam Chamber Opera. If you would like more information on funding available for musical endeavours or music lessons, please do not hesitate to get in touch. All members of college are automatically part of the Music Society. If you would like to play a more active role, contact our Junior President Natalie on [email protected]).

Our Junior President Pierre not only plays a mean piano and sings a mean tenor, but, it turns out, also does a mean impression of a horse! Congratulations to Cambridge Youth Opera (and Pierre) for a terrific run of Britten's Little Sweep in the Auditorium last week.

"When I think of all the disciplines in music, the conductor is the hub. All eyes are on her, or him. They bring everything together so they have to have presence, authority, and also that teaspoon of fun."Young Women's Conducting Workshop for state school girls aged 12-15 | 28 May 2017, Fitzwilliam...
