We’re back at Strawberry Fair this Saturday 6th June at 2.30pm on tne fabulous CamBuskers Showcase Stage. We’re really looking forward to lowering the tone and raising thr volume by mangling some of our favourite songs including “Starman” by David Bowie, “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers and a drop of reggae, “Could You Be Loved” by Bob Marley.

We hope everyone from Cambridge and thereabouts who knows and loves us will be there to join in and possibly improve matters….or maybe not. As ever if you know you really ought to be up on the stage with us rather than shocking your companions in the audience, we invite you to strut your tuneless stuff with us! Don’t be shy!

It’s getting closer… in just a few days, I’ll be back in the Octagon at Wesley Methodist Church, Cambridge, kicking off the first squawking session of the year with the wonderful members of the Cambridge Tuneless Choir and warmly welcoming newcomers who want to see what it’s all about. Sometimes folks new to us say they can’t believe we’re serious about singing, as if no one is listening… but honestly, we really are! And don’t worry — no one’s going to try and make you improve, sing more sweetly, or keep to the rhythm more tightly. Instead, we encourage you to turn up, find a seat, say hello to the person next to you — they’ll be delighted to see you — and follow Lulu, our lovely leader’s, fun directions.

Every session, Lulu takes us through a Starter Song, a quick Hello and a fun Warm-Up followed by the first half of our songs. After a short break with a chat, some tea or coffee, and maybe a biscuit or
two, we’ll be back for another half-hour of singing. Each week, we typically sing 10 to 12 different songs — we do have some favourites, but we also like to mix things up with a few new tunes.

Cambridge Tuneless Choir launched in August 2021 and has been enjoying squawking together, belting out musical/film favourites, popular pop, folk, rock songs nearly every Thursday evening as well as liberating our inner Kate Bush, Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse and David Bowie to mention a few. 7 Squawkers performed for the pleasure of the crowd at the Summer Shindig on Romsey Rec aka Vinery Road Park and Nick the MC encouraged people who felt like joining in to get up with us for a community singalong! They sang 3 songs together and then suddenly there were lots of people in front of me! Some of them could sing and some of them really couldn’t however whatever their vocal attributes they all had a fantastic time. Just look at all those smiles.
A big thank you from all of us at Tuneless Choir Cambridge especially Marcie, Katie, Caroline Duffy-Fenn, Maggie, Diane, Janet and Dave of the choir, Tina and Jane for encouragement from the front row, Hilary for dancing with me and all the organisers!!

Best Wishes to Lulu Agate, our choir leader in Cambridge, who fell over on 13th January, breaking her pelvis on the left side and her left wrist. These injuries are the medical equivalent of the challenge to patch your head and rub your stomach. Unable to hold a crutch handle in her left hand she’s moving slowly, gradually feeling stronger and looking forward to leading the choir again in March..(fingers and toes crossed).
