A mic, a light and powerful young voices. Cambridge International Arts Festival are proud to present an evening of up and coming spoken word artists.

UNFILTERED LINE-UP:

‘Say It With My Chest’ by Maisie Armah.
Poet Maisie Armah presents her spoken word piece 'Say It With My Chest', inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Maisie is an East 15 Acting School, RADA and National Youth Theatre graduate, a David Glass Ensemble Associate and a mentee of The Pappy Show.

Edalia Day.
Edalia Day is a transgender spoken word artist, motion designer and theatre maker based in Norwich. Trained at Lecoq and Alra, her spoken word is full of energy and theatrical flair and her theatre combines comedy, live music and interactive projection mapping. Since lockdown she's produced several successful projects combining Animation and Poetry, working with the Young Vic, HOME, Harrogate Theatre, Theatre Royal Norwich and Lost in Translation Circus. Her shows include Super Hamlet 64, about videogames and Shakespeare and Too Pretty To Punch, about transphobia in the media.

‘Bridge’ by Gemma Barnett.
When the pandemic hit and all theatres went dark both Gemma and Suzi had to find alternative jobs. Gemma ended up on the admin team of a GP Practice whilst Suzi was a frontline worker in Wales. ‘Bridge’ is a personal observation on loss, connection and love, all set within a Doctors Surgery in Tottenham, London.

You are about to journey through Bridge’s day with her. You’ll see her grapple with grief and heartbreak, anxiety and illness. You’ll see her desperately trying not to smoke. I hope that you’ll also see that in chaos there is huge possibility for connection.

Created in partnership with Suzi Macgregor, a vocal artist currently exploring the versatile & vibrant art form of live improvised singing. Suzi uses minimal tech so she can focus on the moment-to-moment response to Gemma’s words and the live performance element.

A double bill of work without words, Speak No More features THE GREEN MIME by Michael Lynch, and CHRISTOPHER by Sam Morris.

THE GREEN MIME.
The Green Mime emerges from his slumber. It is his birthday. It is a good day. So far at least. An eccentric mime show fused with reactive soundscapes and slick physical flare.

CHRISTOPHER.
A man at work, a child at heart. Christopher is stuck in a endless loop of suppressing his past whilst damaging his future. It’s not until he looks within that he realises the answer has always been there - to become the very thing he lost. This energetic piece of physical theatre sits outside the realm of reality, but the story couldn’t be any closer to the truth.
