Opening night was a week ago, and I still don't really believe what happened.
An original musical, by a brand new production company, managed to sell out 3 night at the Corpus Playroom, in the middle of Winter, and receive rapturous applause every night (in some cases, through floods of tears!)
Speaking on behalf of Sad Little Productions, we can't really explain how grateful we are, but there's a few people that deserve a shout out.
Olivia & the ADC team. As a new company, opportunities are hard to come by. We were ecstatic to hear that you were interested in Sad Little Island based off of our March 2025 showcase, and overjoyed that we were able to make the show happen at the Corpus.
Seb joined us only a few days before the show to single-handedly design the lighting for Sad Little Island, and operated the lights every night. You'll see some of the video soon and I'm sure you'll agree he did an amazing job.
The creative team: Tom, Jamie, Laura and Shanta. Without you, the show wouldn't have been nearly as impressive as it was. The cast leaned on each of you and you didn't let them down. Tom in particular deserves a shout out for his amazing dialogue. Before Tom, the show didn't have scenes. We know from the audience feedback how important these scenes were. You nailed it.
Personally, I'd like to thank Chris and Amelia for bringing me on board - initially to work on the music side of things, and then to lead the marketing. Sad Little Island started as a family affair and, honestly, I think we've spent enough time together that we may as well be related.
Finally, the cast. I've never met a more charming, dedicated, funny group of people.
Chris put it really well the other day. He said that the strength of Sad Little Island is that "the ensemble don't know their place". Everyone has a solo, dialogue, and a moment in the spotlight to really show what they can do.
So, to Bucky, Jacob, Hannah, Isabel, Emma, Ben, Carla, Sarah, Alfie, Charlotte & Issy - thank you, and congratulations. You put your faith in a show that no one's heard of, and you excelled.
Here's to the next one 🥂
