I’ve been feeling quite stuck on how to move on to a new project for the new module, and so I made this page of lions!
Because I have been feeling stuck, I have given myself permission to meander, wander, get lost, play, experiment, and see what happens... who knows, maybe something will become of these lions?!
.
What do you do when you get stuck?

I’m completely thrilled today to reveal the third special guest collaborator for - Tor Freeman!!
☀️
Tor, a.k.a has published over 40 books with publishers including Walker Books, Macmillan Children’s Books, Andersen Press and Quarto. In 2012 Tor received the prestigious Maurice Sendak Fellowship Award, and in 2017 she was the winner of the Observer/Cape/Comica graphic short story prize. She has since published a graphic novel called Welcome to Oddleigh with Bog Eyed Books, and now enjoys making comics as well as children’s books. Tor recently did a year-long comics workshop with the Sequential Artists Workshop in Florida.
☀️
Not only is Tor a brilliant artist, she is also full of ideas and stories, and a complete original. I also happen to have known her since I was two days old, when our mums met across the ward where we were both born. It was the start of a lifelong friendship for both Tor and me, and our mums. Tor is literally THE BEST, and I am so excited to share her with you!!
☀️
Details of her workshop and date to come.
☀️
My intention for Happy Sun Arts is for it to be a mixture of workshops with special guest collaborations and ones hosted by me.
☀️
For each collaborator’s session, I will design a warm up activity to get us going, have a little chat with the guest, and then hand over to the guest for them to host the workshop. It should be EPIC!
☀️
I have one more special guests to announce this week, plus details of some half term workshops, which I will do over the next few days.
☀️
I can’t wait to share the last collaborator with you. Watch this space!

And for the second special guest announcement for today, I’m thrilled to reveal it will be Ruby Wright!!
☀️
Ruby, a.k.a. is an illustrator who tries to draw every day and is working on her first picture book. Her work is inspired by children's imaginative play. Ruby recently won a Picture Hooks Hello Spring competition and is represented by Jodie Hodges at United Agents.
☀️
Ruby’s work is infused with warmth, colour and a hefty dose of style. She makes most of her work using screen print, and makes beautiful sketches with her trademark bold colourful line.
☀️
She is going to take us through a workshop teaching us how to print at home using things that you find lying about the house. The only equipment you will need is a roller. Full details and date to come. Watch this space.

I am doing a takeover for this week, as I am announcing a flurry of special guests and some half term workshops. I have TWO exciting special guests to announce today!!
☀️
I’m very excited to finally reveal to you the first special guest collaborator for !!
☀️
The first is with the wonderful aka Kate Southerby, who not only is my sister in law, but is the most inspiring, insightful and uplifting mindset coach! She’s too good not to share, and I thought she would be the perfect person to kick off the collaborations with!
☀️
I will confirm dates and full details on her session after I have announced all the collaborators, but to give you a taster... She is has designed some amazing exercises to help us creatives connect with our authentic, creative self, let go of our inner critic, and get in the zone!

“Allotment”
1 x 1 metre.
Acrylic on canvas.
Available for purchase, DM for enquiries.
Making artwork at the moment is getting me through this part of the pandemic. Everything feels so samey. Same room, same stuff, same TV, but with art you can see new things, go to new places. Travel without moving (much). I am so thankful to have my practice.
As some of you may know I have really got back into painting again recently. On the MA I am doing, I have been painting bigger and bigger fur a while, and have my biggest breakthroughs when going bigger, so when encouraged me to paint, I didn’t need much encouragement, and realised it was a natural progression for me. Since then I have made lots of different paintings, some that are more representative and recently have been enjoying trying out abstract too. But this is the first time I have taken a drawing/painting from my sketchbook and brought it to life. Emily had been suggesting it for a while, and recently sent me a message suggesting it, and it was the final push I needed. I am so grateful for this wonderful creative community here. Thanks so much to Jane for caring enough to send a message and give me that encouragement. I truly appreciate every kind comment and word of encouragement I get, and I hope you know I send it all back to you all with an extra flourish of love and encouragement right back! .
Maybe we can help drag each other through these last few months of this lockdown with a lot of creative love! (in the hope things will improve with the rollout of the vaccine!) xx

Today is the last day for first class post to reach us all in time for Christmas Day. I plan to do a trip to the post office at around 3pm, so you have a window today for any final purchases.
🌟
It is also possible to do tracked and/or special delivery up until Weds.
🌟
As this year all our plans have been effectively cancelled or majorly disrupted that may mean nothing to lots of of you anyway...
🌟
However, if you did want to send anything to anyone who you thought you would be with, I would happily gift wrap and add a hand written message and could send directly to your loved one.
🌟
This is a small selection from my shop. I tend to do A5, A4 and A3. And next year I am hoping to offer a larger variety of sizes and even cards and maybe badges and things. I am going to have a creative brainstorm over the holidays for the shop. Let me know if there’s anything you would love to see!
🌟
Thanks as always for your support. It’s been so special to see prints people have bought up on the wall, and to know the backstory behind the purchases, and who they are for. ❤️
🌟
Sending love to those of you who have had their plans disrupted - we were hoping to have my mum with us, but as she’s in tier 4, we’ve had to cancel, and she will have to join us via Zoom. 💔😢 - love to you all, whatever your circumstance ###

My Folktale week shop is now LIVE!
🌟
Thank you so much for all your love and enthusiasm during Folktale Week. I found it all so inspiring and loved following all the Stories everyone else was making, and it was lovely that lots of you were so lovely about what I was making too!
🌟
I have now added 6 of my Folktale Week prints to my shop, as well as full sets in A5 and A3.
🎄
I hope you enjoy having a browse and maybe picking something up, as a gift to yourself or for a loved one.
🌟
I am limiting the number of prints to 5 for now, to make it manageable to look after the shop. I will review at the end of the week, and possibly add more, but will see how it goes.
🌟
Thank you to all of you for your support. All your lovely comments mean so much to me and I am so happy to be part of this vibrant and creative community! It’s pretty nerve wracking putting yourself out there like this, so thank you for being so kind and gentle with me - I truly appreciate it!
🌟
I created some videos about the story behind these prints. They are on my grid for now, and at some point I will remove them and then they can live on in the IGTV tab on my profile.
❤️

As Apollo looked around, he realised he was surrounded by the people he loved, and that by leaving his old life behind him, he had created one that truly belonged to him. He looked to Aurora, they laughed, and danced!
I’m taking part in Folktale Week for the first time this year. I’m excited to be taking part, and telling the story of Apollo the Lion!
Wow! I can’t believe it is over! I feel like I limped to the finish line with this one! I wanted to go out with a showstopper, but feel I got a bit tight with this one. If I had time, I would repaint and keep a bit looser. But you know what?! I am proud that I carried on and finished the whole series! I’ve really love the community of Folktale week, I’m really proud of my friend and fellow illustrators and Patreons who took part too, and I feel totally enriched by the whole experience!
This story was based loosely on my own journey. I am going to post about it in the next week weeks over my Stories, so keep an eye out!
Right, on with the essay!! 🌟
Folktale week was put together by a wonderful group of people who o want to thank so much for bringing us all together like this for the last week! .j.stein .draws

Folktale week. Day 6. Harvest

They arrived at a strange land, unlike anything they had seen before. As they explored, they found hidden treasures, bountiful fruits and many unusual delights. They began to plant seeds, which grew and wove around them and soon they felt that perhaps they had found their new home.
I’m taking part in Folktale Week for the first time this year. I’m excited to be taking part, and telling the story of Apollo the Lion!
I found this a tricky one to pull together. Thank you so much to my special friends and artistic advisors for their help!
