📸 Ever look at a beautifully lit photo and think.. “I wouldn’t even know where to begin”?

You’re not alone. Most photographers guess their way through lighting.. or avoid it altogether.

With 18 years in the industry, lighting is where I shine. It’s the reason women book me for images that flatter, empower, and feel like them, just elevated.

The thing is.. great bo***ir photography isn’t about expensive gear or years of trial and error.

It’s about knowing how to shape light, pose with purpose, and create a space where confidence can shine.

That’s exactly what this Intro to Bo***ir Photography Workshop is for.

One day. One model.

One inspiring space to finally learn how to create the kind of images you admire.

You thought you nailed the setup.
But then the light shifts.
Again.

And again.

Now your shot looks like it was taken in three different time zones and you’re ready to hurl your camera across the room ✈️🎯

If you’ve ever stood frozen mid-shoot wondering how the sun is gaslighting you, you’re not alone 😆

Getting to grips with lighting doesn’t have to be this painful.

I break it all down in my hands-on Intro to Studio Lighting Workshop so you can stop guessing and start glowing (your subjects, that is).

🗓️ Next date: Sunday 27 July
📍 Max 6 people

Ever taken a photo and thought… 🤔

“Why does my subject look kind of grey and dull?”

It’s not them.. it’s your white balance and when it’s off, your light loses its magic.

Here’s a quick fix:

⚡️ Before you shoot, check your camera’s white balance settings. If you’re indoors with artificial light, try setting it to “Tungsten” or “Incandescent.”

Shooting with natural light? “Daylight” or “Shade” can make a world of difference.

🤷🏼‍♀️ Still unsure? Go manual with a custom white balance. It sounds scary, but it’s simpler than you think (and I’ll break it down in an upcoming tip).

The right white balance brings life back into your image.. no filters, no guessing, just clean, vibrant colour 🙌🏻

You’ve probably tried all the things… 😤

Changed your settings, moved your light, maybe watched 100 tutorials.. and still, something’s not quite clicking.

I’ve been where you are and it’s frustrating!

One of the biggest lightbulb moments (pun intended! 🤣) is realising that where you place your light makes all the difference.

Just shifting your light slightly to the side can completely change the depth, mood, and overall look of your photos.

It’s simple once you know how, but no one really shows you what to look for.

That’s exactly what we walk through in my Intro to Studio Lighting Workshop.

No pressure, no tech overwhelm or jargon.. just a hands-on, friendly space to get stuck in and try it for yourself as I limit my workshops to just 6 people.

You’ll leave feeling clearer, more confident, and excited to get back behind the camera.

Workshop Details:
📆 Sunday 25th May
📍 My cosy Camberley studio (just 40 mins from West London)
📩 DM me “WORKSHOP” if you’d like to grab a space or ask any questions.

📸 Still feel like your photos never look quite right.. even after watching all the YouTube tutorials that are SO time consuming? 😬

Let me say this now… you’re not doing anything wrong.

Lighting is one of the trickiest (and most important) parts of photography and no one tells you how to actually get it right in real-life conditions.

That’s why I created this intimate, hands-on workshop.

It’s for anyone who loves photography but hates feeling overwhelmed by settings, gear, or stiff instructions. We’ll try out real setups together, and I’ll guide you through it all without the jargon that can be down right confusing!

You’ll walk away with actual lighting knowledge that sticks and the confidence to create the shots you’ve been imagining

📍 Camberley Studio (40 mins from West London)
👥 Just 6 spaces (and they’re going quickly!)

Ever look at a portrait and wonder why the subject just pops off the background?

That depth and glow you’re seeing? It’s all about rim lighting. Placing a light source just behind your subject to create a soft, glowing edge.

It’s one of the first creative lighting techniques I teach, because it instantly gives your portraits that professional, polished feel without relying on heavy editing.

Here’s why it works:

✅ It separates your subject from the background

✅ It adds dimension and depth

✅ It creates natural, flattering highlights

We’ll break it down step-by-step in my next Intro to Studio Lighting Workshop. There’ll be no blackboards, no boring lectures, just proper hands-on shooting, so you can see and practice it for yourself!

Looking to add a creative flair to your portraits? Gobos (go-betweens) can help you project patterns and shapes onto your background, adding depth and interest without the need for elaborate setups.

In my upcoming Intro to Studio Lighting Workshop, we’ll explore how to use gobos effectively, along with other lighting techniques, to elevate your photography.

📸 Why Direction Matters (It’s Not Just About Brightness)

One of the biggest “aha” moments in lighting is realising that it’s not just about how bright your light is, but where it’s coming from.

If you’ve ever looked at a photo and thought, “Why does their face look so flat… or worse, washed out?”.. it’s probably because the light’s coming from straight ahead.

🙌🏼 Here’s a simple test:

Move your light just slightly to the side and up, around 45 degrees. You’ll instantly start to see shadow, shape, and that subtle depth that gives your photos more life.

It’s such a small change, but the difference it makes? Huge!

This is the kind of hands-on experimenting we do in my studio: trying different angles, seeing what works, and learning by actually doing (not sitting through a lecture)

Because my brain was never able to work like that, lol! Let’s roll up our sleeves and get stuck in so I can show you firsthand and you can recreate those key effects with my guidance.

My next Intro to Studio Lighting Workshop is happening on Sunday 11th May in Camberley.
Only 6 spots, and they always go quickly.

📩 DM me “WORKSHOP” if you’re ready to stop guessing and start lighting with confidence.

💡You don’t need loads of gear to get dramatic, editorial-style portraits.. just one light and a little know-how.

Here’s one of my favourite hands-on tips from the studio:

Use one main light (your key light) and position it slightly to the side of your subject’s face; not directly in front.

This creates soft shadows, depth, and a bit of mood. It’s the easiest way to stop your images looking flat.

🙌🏼 Bonus tip?

Ask them to turn just slightly toward the light. It opens up the face and gives a natural highlight to the cheekbone *chef’s kiss* 🤌🏼

If you’ve ever wondered how I get that glowy, yet-dramatic studio feel, this is one of the first techniques I teach.

Ever taken a photo and felt like something’s missing… but can’t quite figure out what?

Chances are, it’s your depth of field.

That blurry background you love in professional shots? That’s no accident.. it’s all in how you control the depth.

Here’s how to play with it:

🔹 Want that creamy, blurred background? Use a low f-number (like f/2.8).

🔹 Want everything sharp and clear? Go for a higher number (like f/8+).

🔹 And the real trick? Focus on your subject, then step back and zoom in slightly.. it’ll enhance the blur even more.

We’ll break all of this down in my Intro to Studio Lighting Workshop: hands-on, jargon-free, and set up to help you actually get the shot (without the tech-headache) 🤨

💡 How to Soften Harsh Light Instantly

Ever taken a photo and thought, Why is the light so harsh? Shadows everywhere, weird skin tones.. not exactly the look you were going for? Lol!

Here’s a quick fix: Diffuse your light.

💡 For natural light: Place a sheer curtain (or even a white bedsheet!) over a window for instant soft, flattering light.

💡 For studio light: Use a softbox or bounce light off a white surface to avoid direct, harsh shadows.

This one simple trick makes all the difference between an unflattering, high-contrast look and a smooth, natural glow.

The Secret to Instantly Better Photos 💥

📸 COMPOSITION

Nine times out of ten, the reason a photo feels more professional isn’t the camera but how the shot is framed. Here are three tricks to instantly improve your images:

✅ The Rule of Thirds: Instead of placing your subject dead center, align them along one of the imaginary grid lines (your camera probably has this feature!)

✅ Leading Lines: Use roads, fences, or shadows to guide the viewer’s eye straight to your subject

✅ Framing: Shoot through windows, doorways, or branches to add depth and visual interest

Next time you pick up your camera, try one of these and see how much stronger your shots feel!
