Hi, I’m Shaneen - the person behind Nayi Taal 🙋🏽♀️
People often assume Bollywood dance is only for professionals, performers, actors or people who already “know how to dance”.
But honestly? Nayi Taal was built for aspiring dancers, by a dancer.
I’ve danced for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was constantly performing in front of family, then at weddings, parties and community events. Eventually people started asking me to choreograph and teach - so I somehow ended up starting Nayi Taal whilst still in high school!
Over the years, life changed. I moved from Wolverhampton to London for work, Covid pushed classes online, and then two years ago I moved to Surrey and casually thought:
“Would anyone even want Bollywood dance classes here?”
Turns out…yes ✨
What I love most is seeing complete beginners walk in nervous and leave laughing, sweating and feeling proud of themselves afterwards. We have people of different ages, backgrounds and cultures - many who don’t even speak Hindi (the language of the songs) - and honestly, that’s exactly how I wanted it to be.
My classes are not about perfection.
They’re about:
✨ Feeling the music
✨ Understanding the story behind the songs
✨ Having a laugh when we get it wrong
✨ And trying again anyway
Because trust me…I still forget steps too!
I still get performance anxiety.
I still put pressure on myself.
And I am definitely not a “perfect teacher”.
…I’m just a dancer first! 💃🏽
One of the loveliest moments recently was seeing the ladies from my classes spending their Sunday helping me promote Nayi Taal at Ash Fun Day. Watching this little community slowly build has honestly meant so much 💕
Thank you for supporting this journey so far.
