Adder season is here โ€” and sunny days bring them out into exactly the spots your dog loves most: long grass, coastal paths, and sandy dunes ๐Ÿพ

Signs of a bite include sudden swelling, limping, drooling, or your pet seeming unusually lethargic. If you notice any of these, keep them calm and still, carry them rather than letting them walk, and get to a vet straight away. Quick treatment makes all the difference.

Enjoy those sunny adventures โ€” just keep an eye on where little noses are sniffing ๐ŸŒฟ

Fun Fact Friday ๐Ÿพ

Meet the Atlas Moth โ€” one of nature's most impressive tricksters. ๐Ÿฆ‹

The tips of its wings are shaped and patterned to look almost *exactly* like a cobra's head.

So convincing, in fact, that in Cantonese it's known as the "snake's head moth."

When threatened, it slowly flaps those wings to mimic a swaying snake โ€” and predators fall for it every time.

Sometimes the best defence is a good disguise! ๐Ÿ

Meet Sol & Betsy ๐Ÿพ

This wonderful mother-and-son duo hold a special place in our hearts. Betsy had her caesarean section right here with us last year โ€” and watching tiny Sol grow into the handsome, bouncy boy he is today has been an absolute joy.

It's moments like these that remind us exactly why we do what we do. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿค

Meet Peggy ๐Ÿพ

Not every patient walks through our doors alone โ€” and Peggy made sure of that. She brought her social support bunny along for the ride!

A familiar face (or fluffy ear) can make all the difference between a stressed visit and a settled one โ€” and at Live Well Vets, that kind of comfort is always welcome.

Because great vet care goes beyond the clinical. It's about the whole patient โ€” nerves, quirks, support bunnies and all. ๐Ÿพ

Not 'just' a Veterinary Nurse. ๐Ÿพ

May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month, and we couldn't let it pass without giving our incredible team the recognition they truly deserve.

Our veterinary nurses are so much more than a supporting role โ€” they're the heartbeat of everything we do. They're the ones keeping a nervous dog calm before surgery, talking an anxious pet parent through post-op care instructions past closing time, and still finding a moment to give every patient a little extra love before they head home.

But let's talk about what they actually do โ€” because the list is long, and it deserves to be said out loud. Our nurses are anesthetists, phlebotomists, laboratory technicians, physiotherapists, diagnostic imaging technicians, intensive and emergency care providers, nutritionists, dental hygienists, pharmacists and surgical assistants to name a fewโ€” often all in the same shift. ๐Ÿฉบ

They hold the practice together with skill, compassion, and more patience than most people can imagine.

So no โ€” never 'just' a nurse.

We are so incredibly proud of every single one of them.
Thank you for everything you do ๐Ÿพ

Fun Fact Friday ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

Did you know the word "koala" actually means "no water"? It comes from the Dharug Aboriginal word koolah โ€” and it makes total sense when you learn why.

Koalas rarely need to drink water at all. Instead, they get up to 90% of their hydration directly from the fresh eucalyptus leaves they munch through every single day. Those leaves are tough, toxic to most animals, and low in nutrition โ€” but koalas have evolved a highly specialised digestive system that lets them break down compounds that would make other animals seriously ill.

It's a brilliant reminder of just how incredibly adapted animals are to their environments. From a specialised gut to extra-long sleep schedules (up to 22 hours a day!) to conserve energy โ€” koalas are genuinely fascinating creatures. ๐ŸŒฟ

Meet Bella ๐Ÿพ

This beautiful golden oldie at 14 years old, and she is honestly one of the sweetest souls we've had the pleasure of caring for.

There's an undeniable magic that comes with caring for senior pets. The slow walks, the gentle eyes, the way they lean in for a cuddle like they've known you forever. This little lady has all of that in abundance โ€” and then some!

Senior pets give so much, and we think they deserve the very best care in return. That's a promise we take seriously at Live Well Vets๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฉบ

โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Itโ€™s set to be a warm Bank Holiday weekend, so please keep an extra eye on your pets ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ

Heat stroke can happen much quicker than many people realise โ€” especially in dogs who are older, flat-faced, overweight, very fluffyโ€ฆ or just a little too enthusiastic for their own good ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Signs to watch for include:
๐Ÿถ Heavy panting
๐Ÿถ Drooling
๐Ÿถ Vomiting or diarrhoea
๐Ÿถ Weakness or wobbliness
๐Ÿถ Confusion or collapse

Please avoid walking during the hottest parts of the day, make sure fresh water and shade are always available, and rememberโ€ฆ if the pavement is too hot for your hand, itโ€™s too hot for paws โ˜€๏ธ

If youโ€™re worried about your pet, give us a call โ˜บ๏ธ
