Buxton is a unique festival producing its own fully-staged professional operas, as well as showing touring operas, classical music and literary talks. Set within the historic spa town of Buxton, surrounded by the beautiful Peak District, the Festival is renowned for its relaxed and friendly atmosphere and attracts both dedicated opera lovers and those new to the genre. rnational Festival has been running 41 years. It still remains a charity and is funded through ticket sales and the wonderful support of our 2200 BIF Friends. In 2022 Buxton Festival will run from 7-24 July.

That’s a wrap on Buxton International Festival 2026! ✨🥂

We waltzed with Hannah Glawari and weeped with Violetta, heard inspiring interviews from some of the day’s most exciting writers, and basked in glorious music, from jazz to baroque.

Thank you to everyone who came along and made this year’s festival so special. Your energy, enthusiasm, and support are so important to us, and we can’t wait to welcome you back next time. Plus, a huge thank you to all our cast, creatives, crew, performers, staff, and volunteers for making this a year to remember.

With plans for 2027 already in the works, we can’t wait to see you all again next year!

Who’s joining us for La liberazione di Ruggiero tonight?

Premiered in 1625, this is the first known opera by a female composer. Inspired by Orlando Furioso, it follows the heroic Ruggiero as he is freed from the enchantments of the sorceress Alcina through the magic of Melissa and the enduring power of love

Following a successful opening night, La liberazione di Ruggiero has arrived at Buxton International Festival ✨

A production in association with Buxton International Festival.

Premiered in 1625, this remarkable work is the first known opera by a female composer, Francesca Caccini. Based on the epic poem Orlando Furioso, it follows the heroic Ruggiero as he is freed from the enchantments of the wicked sorceress Alcina through the power of the enchantress Melissa.
