Why do we care so much about changing our perfectly imperfect bodies?

If the pressure to shrink was a human condition rather than a specifically female one, you’d find rows of these torturous garments in the men’s department of too, right?!

I wanted a flesh-tone slip to go under a sheer dress so I didn’t have visible underwear lines, and accidentally ordered an industrial containment unit. I am a UK size 18/20 and this particular shapewear was supposed to fit a UK size 20-22—did you see the built-in bum and b**b inserts? There’s no WAY that was engineered for a voluptuous midlife body.

Thankfully, independent clothing brands like have given me the confidence to ditch the idea that we need to squeeze ourselves into clothes for the male gaze or social acceptance. I will forever praise their style, Sally the owner, and the values they hold (and the b**bies they hold too!).

Midlife style and body confidence isn’t about hiding; it’s about breaking the rules. Take up space. Physically and personally. Don’t minimise yourself for anyone. ✨💅
