My first post in many months. Here is my newest original, “Mountain Hare”.
I love this one. I have been wanting to broaden my ‘hare horizons’ from the European brown hare to the ethereal Scottish mountain hares, and here I present my first depiction.
This portrait travels beyond the border of Suffolk, all the way up to the Scottish Highlands. The artwork is an experimentation of texture and light, featuring a sharp edged depiction of this stunning creature with both warm and cold hues. Natural light allows the portrait to come to life; the cold, blue hues of the snowy landscape reflected onto the hare’s face dominates the portrait, but the warmth of the sun pierces the eye, revealing its fiery glow.
Deep within the Scottish Highlands, these creatures face the ever-pressure of climate change affecting their eco-system and ability to blend into their surroundings, and have now been flagged onto the GB Red List as Near Endangered.
