Musical Theatre Company performing two shows a year at Stretton in Burton upon Trent

The Burton Musical Theatre Company was formed as Burton Operatic Society in the 1920s and re-formed in the early 1950s producing mainly Operetta. Since the late 70s, the Society has moved on from Operetta to Musicals and performs two shows a year at The de Ferrers Academy, Harehedge Lane, Stretton. Our shows range from well known ‘box office hits’ to lesser known shows that give our audiences the opportunity to see some first class productions with sets built by our crew, and music provided by our excellent musicians.

Summer is over, rehearsals are back in full swing… and The Addams Family is now only a few weeks away! 😱

We’ve already told you about our Halloween Fancy Dress Night on Saturday 31st October 🎃 — come along in your best Halloween, Addams Family or fancy-dress costume, with prizes for the best costumes! 🏆

But now we’ve got something NEW… 👀

🖤 WEDNESDAY WEDNESDAY – Wednesday 28th October! 🖤

Yes, it’s Wednesday on Wednesday!

Come to the show dressed as Wednesday Addams - no prizes, simply an excuse to have a bit of Addams Family fun and get into the spirit of the show!

So whether you’re planning to dress up on Wednesday, Saturday, or both, make sure you’ve got your tickets sorted! 🎟️

With rehearsals now well underway, the cast and crew are working hard to bring this gloriously gothic musical to the stage — and the show is getting closer by the day.

🏴‍☠️ Ahoy there! We’ve got some very exciting news…

For our February 2027 production, BMTC is setting sail with a show that couldn’t be more appropriate for our 75th Anniversary year:

🎭 THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE – THE AUSTRALIAN VERSION! 🎭

Gilbert & Sullivan have been part of BMTC’s story from the very beginning. When Burton Operatic Society was formed in 1952, G&S was its primary repertoire — and our first production of The Pirates of Penzance followed just three years later, in 1955. Now we’re bringing it back for our 75th Anniversary year!

But this isn’t your traditional Pirates…

The Australian version is a modern, madcap take on the G&S classic, with a fresh pop feel to the music, outrageous characters and plenty of hilarious comedy. It stays true to the spirit of Gilbert & Sullivan, while giving this much-loved classic a fresh energy and contemporary feel. BMTC last performed this version of The Pirates of Penzance in 2010, and it was hugely loved by audiences and cast alike.

So what better way to celebrate 75 years of BMTC than by returning to the composers who helped shape our history — and sending our pirates back out to sea?

Death is Just Around The Corner… and so is October! 🖤

Rehearsals for The Addams Family are continuing throughout the summer, and things are certainly heating up! 🔥

Here’s a glimpse from our latest rehearsal of the big chorus song and dance number, Death is Just Around The Corner. There’s a lot of energy, a lot of choreography and a whole lot of kooky Addams Family mayhem going on!

We're delighted to introduce Alan Lowe as Mal Beineke! 🖤

Mal is Lucas's father—a practical, straight-talking businessman who believes in logic, tradition and playing it safe. Invited to dinner with the Addams family, he expects an ordinary evening... but quickly discovers there's nothing ordinary about the Addamses!

With the entire principal cast now revealed, the countdown to *The Addams Family* this October is well and truly on. We can't wait to bring this weird, wonderful and hilarious musical to the stage.

Lucas is smart, friendly and completely "normal"—which makes him a very unusual addition to the Addams family's world! Deeply in love with Wednesday, he's determined to prove that their two very different families can come together. But bringing the Addamses and the Beinekes together for dinner doesn't quite go to plan...
