The gallery looks glorious in the sunshine for the opening of Alice Scrutton’s new exhibition, ‘Drifting Tides’.

We are delighted to share this exceptional new collection of paintings, in which Alice’s distinctive palette and skilful use of light evoke a quiet sense of harmony and balance.

Whether placed in a Swiss boardroom, a London townhouse, Caribbean villa or a country cottage, Alice’s paintings have a wonderful ability to transform a room, bringing light, calm and space.

Alice has always drawn inspiration from the sea, going back to her days at St Martins School of Art and has gone on to have numerous successful solo exhibitions in London, across the UK and internationally.

A major exhibition ‘A Potted History’ is now on at Holkham Hall, celebrating 75 years since the founding of Holkham Pottery.

Established by my grandmother in 1950s, at its peak it employed nearly 100 local people including local artists, specialists from Stoke on Trent and students from around the world, a real artistic hub. The ceramics, made using estate clay, were exported worldwide, quite an industry in the 1950s.

There are some wonderful archive photos of my mother, Carey Basset (Née Coke) and her sister Anne Glenconner (Née Coke) painting the pottery.

I think I inherited my love of art from my mother and grandmother, who were both keen collectors and painters, becoming great friends with some well known artists along the way.

I found this wonderful photograph of when my mother worked at the Crane Kalman gallery, Brompton Road London, in the 1950s. She was lucky enough to be there at a time when the gallery was exhibiting , amongst others, some of the leading artists of the 20th century, including Ben Nicholson, Lucian Freud and L.S Lowry.

The exhibition at Holkham Hall continues until October and well worth a visit.

We are delighted to have some new paintings by renowned Scottish Colourist Alison McWhirter, as part of our current exhibition.

Alison’s still life paintings are created in rich, thick oils, using texture and form to stunning effect. For Alison, colour is never purely decorative - it conveys deep emotions and poetic beauty.

Through the symbolism of flowers and her exuberant use of colour, each painting becomes more than a still life: it is an expression of deep emotions and the quiet power of nature.

Born in Dumfries, Scotland Alison studied Fine art at Bath Academy of art. Since then she has exhibited widely in the UK including the Royal Academy Summer exhibition and the Royal Glasgow Institute as well overseas at international art fairs.

Now available to view in our Burnham Market gallery. Or to view more of her available work please visit our website www.fairfaxgallery.com

The gallery is bursting with colour, energy and inspiration for our mixed still life exhibition!

We are delighted to be showing these beautiful impressionist paintings by award-winning artist Richard Colson. Full of atmosphere and feeling, Richard’s work is less about precise description and more about capturing the mood of his subject and the emotions it evokes.

Born in Edinburgh, Richard went on to study painting at Goldsmiths college, graduating with First Class Honours in Fine Art 1977.

✨The exhibition continues until the 9th May ✨

We are delighted to have some stunning new work by still life artist Paul Stone available to view from today.

Since graduating in Fine Art in 2008, Stone has established himself as a highly accomplished contemporary still life painter, working in oils with exceptional precision and sensitivity.

Rooted in the tradition of classical realism, his carefully composed paintings bring together everyday objects, fruit, vegetables, glass, silver, and found items. Through his refined handling of light, tone, and reflection, Stone gives each object a quiet intensity and heightened sense of presence.

Stone was named Artists & Illustrators Magazine Still Life Artist of the Year in 2010, and was later shortlisted again for the award, further recognising his standing within the genre.

We have had the pleasure of exhibiting Paul Stone’s paintings for over fifteen years, including at London and international art fairs, as well as through a series of solo exhibitions.

We are delighted to have this exquisite painting ‘Spiralling Upwards’ oil on panel by the contemporary realist artist Stephanie Rogers as part of our still life exhibition starting tomorrow. Her remarkable paintings explore the beauty, fragility and quiet poetry of the natural world.

Stephanie first exhibited with the Fairfax Gallery in 2002 and it has been an honour to watch her work evolve. The past two years have marked an extraordinary period of international recognition. In 2026 she was awarded 3rd place for still life in the prestigious 18th International ARC Salon, following her Purchase Award and Honourable Mention in the 17th ARC Salon in 2025. Her work will be exhibited at Sothebys New York in July 2026, she also received an Honourable Mention in the 2025 Almenara Art Prize in Spain.

Adding to these remarkable achievements, Stephanie’s work has been selected for the Lunar Codex ‘Polaris Collection’, an archive of human creativity destined to be preserved on the Moon in 2026.

We are delighted to be showing a collection of mini paintings, by our wonderful Norwich-based artist Paul P Smith, in our upcoming still life exhibition. A two time finalist in the prestigious BP Portrait Awards at the National Gallery London, Paul brings great sensitivity and insight into this new body of work.

In these quietly evocative oils on paper, childhood toys, books and treasured objects become vessels for memory- reflecting on loss and that enduring question of where has time gone. Nostalgia and absence sit side by side, as familiar things become poignant reminders of what is kept, and what slips away.

A deeply reflective collection which can be viewed from the 25th April.

Striking new work by Shirin Tabeshfar have just arrived for our Still Life Exhibition and look fabulous.

Shirin’s work moves between memory, symbolism, spirituality and time - balancing order and chaos in compositions that feel both rigorous and poetic. Her latest paintings inspired by the still life of the ordinary, push further into a powerful, lyrical abstraction, offering a deeply collectible vision.

We are delighted to welcome award winning Norfolk based painter Simon Wright to the gallery for our upcoming Still Like exhibition.

Simon’s paintings originate not on the canvas, but in the construction of cardboard marquettes and small sculptural arrangements assembled from everyday materials.

By constructing and refining these temporary set-like pieces, Simon transforms familiar objects into thoughtful paintings, that feel both familiar and transformed.

Simon’s work has been shown in exhibitions and prizes across the UK, including the Mostyn Open, Threadneedle Prize, Lynn Painter Stainers prize, The Discerning Eye and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

✨An exciting addition to the exhibition
