Training Barn At the Training Barn we offer 1:1 guidance, group courses and online training. The Training Barn is also run by Hannah Freeland.

The Training Barn was created by the extremely talented Emily Hancock FBIPP since creating this haven for training and progressing budding equine photographers Emily has stormed the art world and has an incredible array of Limited Edition Fine Art prints for sale. Hannah has been running her successful equine photography company for the past 16 years and has been asked time and time again to talk to up and coming equine photographers and to conduct courses. These 2 work together beautifully, constantly laughing and helping other photographers with their creative or business needs.

We’ve just finished an EPIC 3 day photography workshop with 6 fantastic photographers joining us from all over the country. Our new studio has lived up to everything we hoped she would and more, we are constantly moving and adding elements into our space and always bringing more creativity. We hosted and directed three photoshoots over the 3 days and ran 3 editing, critiquing and analysing sessions in the studio. Over the shoots we met Babs, Flora, Murphy and Bluebell, all amazing and gorgeous horses with their equally gorgeous mummies.

We’ve heard so much positive feedback (so grateful for this) from our delegates, especially hearing that we’re open books and hand holding throughout the course. It’s important to us that you feel heard, supported and inspired on our courses.

Here’s a message we received this morning: “Just a quick note to say thank you both for an incredible 3 days, I haven’t stopped chattering about my experiences this morning, but haven’t been this excited about something for such a long time. You both have incredibly good energy and it feels so great to be around you both, the encouragement and teaching style is perfect for me. Over the next four months inside the Equine Creative Community, we’ve got a packed schedule of new training, challenges and live Q&A sessions designed to help equine photographers grow both creatively and commercially.

We’ll be covering everything from how to organise and back up your images, how to respond to enquiries professionally, how to present images in frames, how to shoot with albums in mind, what kit you actually need, how to handle confidence wobbles and how to stay focused on the things that really move your business forward.

The ECC is there to give you structure, support and practical training you can actually use, especially when you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed or unsure what to work on next.

LAST MINUTE SPACES!

We have our next 3 Day Photography Workshop next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We've had a couple of spaces become available last minute so if you've been wondering whether this is your time to jump in and come on one of our courses we'd love to welcome you to the Studio next week.

We will be hosting 3 guided photo shoots with horses and models in stunning locations and 3 editing and critiquing sessions in the studio. The timings are 9.30am - 4.30pm in the New Forest.

The joys of talking to other photographers!

Over the past 10-15 years while running the Training Barn we hear very similar stories and fears being told. The top ones are normally

"Im not going to earn any money doing this"
"I won't know what to do on a photo shoot"
"My images will never be good enough"

And many many more fears. The great thing about this creative industry is the support. Successful people want success for others (the opposite is also true but we don't think about that). People who have been there are truly able to help others who are having those thoughts and feelings right now. We have been there! We still get wobbles. We still have days where we wonder if we're good enough. However, the community we have around us and the support helps guide us and feel supported.

Here at the Training Barn everyone is welcome. Whether you have JUST picked up your first camera or you've been a photographer for 25 years. You will find creativity, support, guidance, laughter, fun and most of all motivation here in the studio.

FINDING YOUR VOICE! 🗣

When you're starting out we know it's hard to find that confident voice in directing your models and clients. Asking them to stand over there, lean on that door frame, look at you and smile can feel like the hardest thing in the world. Especially if you're not quite sure what you should be asking them to do.

In our 3 Day Photography Workshop we concentrate on teaching you how we set up, pose and direct each shot. We teach you when to speak up and when you allow a moment to happen. We have so many 'go to' topics that we discuss with clients, taking the pressure off of you as the photographer.

Do you praise the sun gods when you have a beautiful overcast 🌥 day for your shoot and curse them when it's really bright and sunny ☀? Don't worry it's not unusual!

We hear "surely you want a bright sunny day for the shoot" but inside you're thinking "how am I supposed to get a balanced exposure?"

They are so incredibly important, but why? If you spend 20 minutes walking around your clients location with your notebook making notes of the perfect areas, locations, backdrops and props when it comes to the shoot you can simply refer to your book and choose the best spots in that area and you're not having to think on your feet.
