Friday 1st November is Live-Arts last show for 2019.

The Melrose Quartet is a great way to finish. Appearing at Clair Hall on the main stage. Show starts at 8.00pm

Melrose Quartet are Nancy Kerr (voice, fiddle), James Fagan (voice, bouzouki, guitar), Jess Arrowsmith (voice, fiddle) and Richard Arrowsmith (voice, melodeons).

From deep roots in their hometown’s vibrant music, song and dance scene, to smashing concert appearances all over the UK, Sheffield-based Melrose Quartet have attracted a reputation for making music that truly connects with people. All four are internationally renowned singers, instrumentalists and writer/composers and this year they were proud to be named the new patrons of Whitby Folk week.

Their second album, Dominion expanded and strengthened the musical presence they first asserted with “Fifty Verses”, their 2014 BBC Folk Award-nominated debut CD.

“Brilliantly showcases their joyous confidence and versatility. With particularly impressive four-part harmony singing, this is a rich, dynamic and inspired team.” fRoots Magazine

“…all in all an inspired ensemble so obviously playing for joy” Martin Simpson

The London Klezmer Quartet is a dynamic group of performers whose deep understanding of klezmer, the celebratory and soulful music of Eastern European Jews, is reflected in exuberant, passionate and accomplished performances that captivate audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
The group plays old and new traditional material guaranteed to move audiences from toe-tapping to tears and back again in moments.

LKQ was formed in 2009 by a group of klezmer specialists keen to explore the almost-lost wedding music tradition of Jewish eastern Europe. The band was swiftly picked up by some of the UK’s foremost folk & world music promoters - Songlines Magazine, Continental Drifts and The Magpie’s Nest offered stages for the group's unique combination of artistry and exuberance. The band is also one of the few in the world who lead the Yiddish dances that this music would traditionally have accompanied.
