One Cello. One Cosmos. One Night.

Switzerland-based cellist James Morley has been called “Australia’s most exciting young cellist” by Limelight magazine, and on 2 July, Budleigh Salterton gets to hear why. He opens the evening with Elgar’s Cello Concerto, one of the most quintessentially English and greatest cello concertos of them all.

From there, the evening expands outward, literally. Holst’s The Planets Suite is performed live alongside a sequence of real NASA imagery, choreographed by Seattle-based video artist Adrian Wyard into a sweeping journey through the solar system.
“Adrian Wyard’s visuals for The Planets are stunning. More than that, they are perfectly suited to enhance the music,” says Delta David Gier, Music Director of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra.

The event is the debut performance of Crescent Collective, a new chamber orchestra founded by Jason Thornton, conducting his own creation for the first time on a Budleigh stage.

From deep within to deep space, all in one evening at St Peter’s Church.

None of this happens without some very special people.

Behind every concert, every warm welcome at the door, and every perfectly placed programme, there are the volunteers and supporters who make Budleigh Music Festival possible. Our volunteers give their time with such generosity and good humour that their enthusiasm becomes part of the festival itself. And to our sponsors and supporters, whose belief in live music makes it all happen — thank you.

We cannot wait to do this together. It’s almost time!
