Bubwith Leisure and Sport Centre
Playground Update
It is sometime since BLSC committee provided an update on progress with replacing the Children’s Playground and re-siting it on the playing field side of the centre.
The purpose of this communique is to provide a brief update and hopefully some reassurance, particularly in light of some Facebook commentary challenging why Eastrington Playing Field Committee has been successful in securing funds and we in Bubwith have not.
BLSC Committee sees securing a new playground as a priority. We have not given up in this endeavour and although we recently polled the community regarding establishing a Pétanque court, this was as an addition to, rather than a replacement for a new playground. It was clear from the responses that the priority is for a playground.
Effort continues to be made to chase every financial opportunity and secure funding to take forward the plan for a new playground. Steve Young (Parish Clerk) and I have made a number of applications to various funds but unfortunately without success.
Sadly, grant opportunities are becoming rarer, have lower values and may specifically exclude playgrounds and equipment, this was the case with the UKSPSF fund that provided a grant for the development of the patio at the centre.
Some grants are also restricted to specific geographical catchment areas as is the case with some of the Windfarm Community funds and Landfill Grant Funds. The new playground at Eastrington is to be funded from a Landfill Grant Fund that is not open to Bubwith. In the past Bubwith has also benefitted from such a grant, however, that landfill site is now closed and we are not eligible to apply to other Landfill Grant funds as we are not currently in any catchment areas.
On a brighter note, because there have been a number of housing developments and more are in the offing for the village we are expecting some Commuted Sums to become available to us specifically for developing a play area and we will continue to seek out other grant opportunities to take our playground aspirations forward.
We will communicate again when there is something positive to report and of course, we would be delighted to hear from anyone who has suggestions for securing funds.
Thank you for your kind attention.
