Last weekend, we welcomed over 300 people to the reopening of Stockwell House on 📍 Bruton High Street with two community projects about the town’s history.

The gallery is a space for creative exchange that supports independent projects, research and exhibitions, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, experimentation and local engagement.

📖 The launch was anchored by ‘Bruton: A High Street Through Time,’ a participatory programme exploring local history and collective memory. Led by writers and historians Emma Craigie and Philippa Lewis, they presented archival material including photographs, artefacts and stories, as well as inviting public contributions for their ongoing research.

✏️ Drawing Matter curated a display of drawings from their collection and led workshops engaging visitors in using drawing to document the built environment. These drawings are on view at Stockwell House until 12 June.

✉️ Applications to use the gallery spaces are now open. For further information and to share proposals, contact [email protected].

‘At Hauser & Wirth Somerset, Angel Otero infuses paintings with a dreamy magical realism. [...] The result is a moving journey through time, through memories real or imagined, the ocean he was born from and remains attached to, the people who shaped him, and language. What it means to move and dream between Spanish and English.’—Nargess Banks for Wallpaper*

Featured in Wallpaper* magazine, writer and editor Nargess Banks delves into ’s first UK exhibition, ‘Agua Salada,’ in which the artist celebrates the significance of place.

On view until Sunday 18 October, Otero’s new body work, which includes paintings, a sculpture and film work, were completed during his artist residency in Somerset.
