Show of Hands Festival

Show of Hands Festival An independent gathering rooted in jazz, soul & creative freedom. Intimate, exploratory & shaped by its community, 16th-19th July 2027
Bruton, Somerset

Music, immersive moments, hot air balloons & unexpected discoveries across the fields of Gilcombe Farm. Once upon a time, festivals were swirling chaos in technicolour, a burst of music, sweat, and wide-eyed revelation. For a few precious days, we built wild kingdoms out of tents and tarps, holding back the Monday grind with sheer collective will. But, over time the edges have been polished off, a

nd these celebrations spun into packaged, tepid spectacles. The same headliners parade through every lineup, food stands hawking the same overpriced snacks, and branding that feels like an advert in disguise. They padded the corners, watered down the drinks, and smothered real activism beneath hollow slogans. Now it’s safe and clean.. but it’s also dull as dust. We have decided to take a gamble. One that bets on people over profit, on instinct over algorithms. A celebration shaped by the collective interests of its audience, its artists, its crew. One where what you put into this World is what you get out of it. It is an enormous social experiment, exploring the power of an individual's vote. It will no longer be a passive experience where you watch, rather, it will be one where you do. This is a festival on a human scale, simple, unpretentious, real. It's a place where familiar faces replace strangers, where unexpected meetings grow into lasting bonds, and every voice counts. Families can come together: kids explore workshops, adventure, and wonder, while adults dive into music, ideas, and spectacle. Here, play is welcomed, curiosity is rewarded, and fun isn't confined to a single space. Beyond the music, you'll find talks on sustainability, social responsibility, and our impact on the world. And if the weather holds, a hot air balloon meet will take place within the festival, a brief escape before life returns to its pace. When the dust settles on the field, we’ll meet again in the Autumn. We’ll gather, friends, family, dreamers, schemers and decide what new World to build. It is in your power what ideas you bring to life, or the things you limit. The choice is yours. We begin with only one rule.

We can’t wait to welcome Soma Soma to our End of Summer Dance next week! As a genre-blurring 6-piece band they’ll be performing their unique style of Afro-Brazilian music, made up of both Brazilian and British musicians and singing in Brazilian Portuguese.

Driving percussion, vintage horns and hypnotic guitar lines blend Brazilian styles like Samba, smooth Bossa Nova and soulful Arrocha with the vibrancy of African Highlife, Afrobeat and the infectious danceability of Soukous.

Released in November 2025, their 3rd album ‘Nem Toda Flor Floresce O Ano Todo’ is a bold and deeply Brazilian exploration of identity, rhythm, and resilience. It’s a vibrant, genre-blurring record that honours Brazil’s rich musical landscape with African diasporic fusions while remaining unmistakably Soma Soma. They have also received international support from many radio stations, including BBC Radio 6 Music, Jazz Fm, KCRW and Worldwide FM.

Catch them on 19th September at Bridge Farm. BYOB! £10 tickets are available in our bio 🌞

We’ve been bubbling away behind the scenes to bring you The End of Summer Dance - a chance for us to say a profound Thank You for sticking with us as we were unable to gather in May.

As Autumn draws nearer, this is a chance for the Show of Hands community to dance under open skies and bask in the last of the Summer sun: to fill our cups and our ears with Afro-Brazilian sounds, courtesy of some of our favourite bands and DJs.

We’re bringing new Brownswood signee Samtheman (Brighter Days Family) samtheman.99 to DJ, alongside a live performance from the genre-defying 6-piece powerhouse Soma Soma SOMA SOMA 🥁

And of course, we’ll be joined by our friends and virtuosos Angel Mel Angel Mel and Drifty Laurence Walker taking us through the afternoon and into dark.

The party is BYOB, but food and refreshments will also be available for purchase too!

We have a limited number of £10 tickets available via Headfirst and in our bio.

This is an intimate capacity venue, in a very special setting so please don’t hesitate to get tickets 🙌

We’ll be seeing you soon,
The Show of Hands Team

A reminder that sadly, this year’s festival has been postponed and will now take place on 16th - 19th July 2027.

As much as we we’d love to see you all this weekend, please don’t travel to Gilcombe Farm, as no festival is taking place.

We can’t wait to see you all next year
