Broadstone Pantomime Productions

Broadstone Pantomime Productions An annual pantomime is produced over three weekends each January in the War Memorial Hall, Tudor Roa She only escaped by emigrating to Australia!

History:

The society was founded in 1979, over 40 years ago. Early productions included ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘Good King Wenceslas’ and the first pantomime was ‘Cinderella’ in 1981, which raised money for Monecute School. During the 1980’s, winter pantomimes were produced alongside summer choruses and one act plays. Since the 1990’s the main emphasis of the society has been putting on an annual

pantomime, sometimes traditional, such as ‘Aladdin’ and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, or something completely new, such as ‘Wonky Wellard the Wizard’ and ‘The Master of Toxcity’. Most have been written by existing members of the society, introducing up and coming script writers in the latter years. In 1996 the society won an achievement award for ‘Services to the Arts’ and other awards have been received from Dorset Pantomime Productions. One of the founding members of the society, Mally Tieche, has acted, directed, produced, written scripts and acted as chairman, was involved right up to 2010. Despite a blip in 2007, when it was decided not to put on a show, renewed enthusiasm coupled with new members has meant the society is now in a strong position and recent productions have been very well received thanks to Katie Bavington, who took over as director and chairman from 2010-2016. 2017 saw Mike Rustici take on the dual role of director and chairman before handing the directorial reigns over to Emma-Louise Pottinger for our 2018 production onward. A good number of other people working in specific and general areas ensures a ‘good’ show for our judges, the audience.

On Sunday, our director Emma-Louise, and member of our committee, Terry, attended the Mayor of Pooles Civic Service of thanksgiving, at St James Church, Poole.

It was truly an honour to have been invited to such a wonderful event, to recognise incredible individuals within the community. The amazing men and women who received the mayors awards were truly inspiring and so deserving of this recognition.

The service was filled with representatives from numerous voluntary and charitable organisations and we were thrilled to have been invited to attend.

Thank you so much to the Mayor, what a beautiful event filled with thanksgiving and celebration… not to mention the amazing musical interludes!

Sunday was our ‘get out’ day … which we got done in record time thanks to this incredible bunch of humans!! Despite everyone being absolutely exhausted after three weeks of shows… we had an army of cast, crew, and partners show up to help out and we could not be more grateful. Thank you all so much.

At our final performance on Saturday evening, we were thrilled to be able to present our chosen charity for this season with a cheque for two thousand pounds.
A huge thank you to David Wood, the charity founder, for talking to us about the charity and the amazing work they do. Please do take the time to look into this incredible local charity and read some of their success stories … we could not be more thrilled to be supporting such amazing work in any way.

Thank you also to Mayor of Poole Councillor Mark Howell, for attending the performance and presenting the cheque to David. We loved having yourself and the Sheriff of Poole with us for the evening. We hope you had fun!
