Marina Moreno and Eeva-Maria Mutka have explored & worked on an installation performance over 7 days at The Island Gallery as part of our residency programme, combining the visual and theatrical elements of somatic dance. Their process aims to expand and develop a new form of artistic expression through visual moving sculptures.

Whether you've been thinking about trying dance for the first time or want to reconnect with the dancer you used to be their Shine A Light festival will have a class to ignite your passion for dance.

Taking place over the month of March across various venues in Bristol, including our very own Dance Studio at The Island.

With less than a week to go until Shine A Light , at RISE we just want to share a few words why its important to us....

Shine A Light is our way of showing that Bristol’s dance scene is alive and making sure the whole city sees it. Its not about making money its about connecting the dots and celebrating the dance scene that does already exist here ✨

This March, we’re celebrating our young people, Bristol-based artists, and creating space for connection across generations of dancers. From first steps into dance, professional pathways, and opportunities for dance artists it’s about showing that the future of dance is already growing here.

Young dancers. Independent artists. Teachers. Early career creatives. Established professionals. Bristol has a powerful dance network and this festival is Shining A Light on that.

Join monthly workshops in the New Year. A welcoming space to explore your creativity through improvisatory processes. Meet new people, develop new artistic clusters, and feel inspired in your own work.

The focus is on collective creation and connection within a supportive environment. Grounded in somatic practice, explore your creative edge individually, in pairs, and in ensemble-based improvisation scores and performance themes.

She’s taught internationally across Australia, Thailand, Korea, New Zealand, Greece and the U.S.!⁠
