Diverse Artists Network Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Paid. In 2022, we received the Arts Council organisational development grant.

Our Mission is to achieve this vision through building a strong network, programming relevant events and showcasing and raising the profile of diverse artists. This grant was a turning point, enabling the formation of a representative board of trustees, the establishment of an advisory group known as “Friends of DAN,” the drafting of a business plan, and the launch of the DAN agency. These develop

ments put DAN on a path toward garnering additional support and opportunities for artists, and strengthening connections within the arts sector across the whole of the South West.

Join Ella McDonald from the BFI NETWORK team at Watershed on Friday 31st July at Arnolfini. Made possible through National Lottery funding, BFI NETWORK collaborates with film organisations and leading cultural venues across the UK to provide short film and early feature development funding, industry-backed professional development and networking support to producers, writers and directors aged 18 and above.

Our monthly Artist Gatherings are designed to bring together members of our network to connect, share their projects, and discuss areas where support is needed within the arts community.

Ella will be talking about New Voices: Step Up, a free mentoring scheme for working-class writers, directors and writer-directors based in the south west of England which will open for applications on Tue 7 July and close on Tue 12 Aug. They will talk about the scheme, as well as offer top tips for applying. They will also outline the other opportunities BFI NETWORK south west offers filmmakers in the region.

🌱 Did you take part in past DAN Artist Gatherings, or are you curious about how to get involved? Whether you are a regular participant, a fellow creative, or completely new to our network, we’d love to see you!

Our monthly Artist Gatherings are designed to bring together members of our network to connect, share their projects, and discuss areas where support is needed within the arts community.

📍 Join us on Friday 27th, 11am–1pm, at Arnolfini for Shaping the Future of DAN Artist Gatherings. This session is a highly participatory opportunity to pause and reflect on our journey so far, welcome new voices, and collectively explore what artists and creatives need right now to learn, grow, and thrive together.

With members of the DAN team on hand, come along to experience a collaborative World Café discussion, enjoy live music and refreshments, and get a short interactive overview of the wider DAN ecosystem—including our Membership, the Agency, and upcoming opportunities.

Bring your insights, your ideas, and your recommendations, and come help us shape the next chapter of the community.

🤝Year-round, our networking events create inclusive spaces where artists from diverse backgrounds connect with peers, organisations, venues, and funders. We design them to break down barriers and ensure people have equal access to opportunities which help make the arts accessible to everyone.

When we prioritise inclusion and diversity, we get to celebrate a wide range of voices, perspectives, and experiences within arts and culture. Through these meaningful connections, shared knowledge, and supportive environments, we get to empower artists with the resources and confidence they need to grow, collaborate, and move closer to their creative and professional aspirations.
