Using hundreds of found and photographic images Vanessa creates a work of art that initially looks like a fine art oil painting. In her own words:

‘I see my work as ‘painting’ but with pieces of paper instead of paint. I consider form, depth, tone and shadow in exactly the same way as I would if I was using paint. Each piece takes many weeks to create, as it is a painstaking and considered proces

s. My aim is to recreate on the canvas the image that I see in my mind, that also reflects the emotion I wish to evoke. My work grows in an organic fashion and I sometimes use actual organic matter in my pictures, such as dried skeleton leaves. I am fascinated by pattern and discovering different techniques and in some pieces use acrylic paint, along with other medium, to enhance the overall image. Part of the mystique of my images comes from when the viewer realises that they are not as they originally seem to be but that a tree can be made from fishing nets, a clock, horses and statue heads. Each piece that I create contains more than the obvious, so a journey can be undertaken by the viewer when they discover this, and in part share in the experience of its creation. ‘
