This Saturday the Cube presents: Slow Cooking
Slowest jams. Heaviest Grooves.

We're tired.

We're tired of the relentless pursuit of high tempo bangers. Since when did beats per minute become the measure of fun?

We believe in slow. We believe in hard. We believe in heavy.

Fall back in love with the dancefloor. Come and lose yourself in a night of low-BPM, groove-focused delights at The Cube's newest and slowest clubnight.

DJ's:
Jamell & Mamma Marcey - An all-vinyl roots and rocksteady headline set from Bristol's best mamma and son duo

DJ Rider Terrapin - Pure raunchy R&B from the naughtiest DJ we know

AlmostNotQuite - Expect soulful disco and filthy funk from Slow Cooking's head chef, with a few slowballs for good measure

🎬 DEAD SOULS | Filmmaker Alex Cox is bringing his latest — last? — feature to UK cinemas this November.

🎥 Powerhouse Films, in association with Screenbound Pictures, are pleased to announce a special UK Tour with maverick filmmaker Alex Cox in attendance. Q&A screenings will take place in Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and London.

Alex Cox (Repo Man, Sid and Nancy) stars in this frontier fable of American Greed, playing the mysterious drifter Strindler — or is it Swindler? -- as he scours the West for the names of dead Mexican labourers.

Dead Souls is a meditative Western that takes place at the borderlands of the American nightmare: where fortunes rest on a dirty deal and legacies are built on blood and gold.

Made just a year apart, Simone Barbès or Virtue and Nightshift offer two distinct but connected visions of women working through the night. Born directly out of their directors' own lived realities (Treilhou and Rose both set and shot their films in the actual p**n theatre and West London hotel where they had worked) these films place female workers at the very centre of nocturnal spaces usually seen from the outside looking in.

Emerging from radical, low-budget independent film scenes in France and Britain, both works are fascinated by the strange texture of nightwork.

Funny, atmospheric, and richly humane, they reveal the city after dark as a landscape of both exhaustion and possibility

Thanks to Radiance Films and Cinenova

REMAKE

The death of his son causes Ross McElwee, an autobiographical filmmaker, to look back on his life’s work. He eventually turns to his archive of home movies. To what extent did his camera affect their relationship when Adrian was alive? To what extent does it define that relationship now that he is gone? Meanwhile, an effort to adapt McElwee’s first feature, Sherman’s March, into a work of fiction lurches along, giving the filmmaker another perspective from which to meditate on movie making and mortality.

“As the camera turns from father to son and back again, “heartbreaking” becomes too flat a word to describe this contemplative film. In fact, part of the honesty of ‘Remake’ is accepting that words and images often come up short in capturing the moment. And, similar to other recent personal films, like ‘Blue Heron’ and ‘Romeria,’ McElwee’s documentary readily accepts that a movie alone cannot fill the void left by loss or redo the many decisions made along the way. It can only ease the lived present by revisiting the recorded past, allowing time to stop, kindly but briefly.” ~ Robert Daniels, RogerEbert.com
