We are pleased to announce that we have won the District Achievement Award for District 1 at the NODA South West Awards for 2025! 🏆

The collaborative production between Helston Theatre Company, Redruth Amateur Musical & Pantomime Society, St Austell Amateur Operatic Society and Truro Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society showcased the wonderful theatrical spirit that is alive in so many groups and societies across Cornwall - to our cast members, orchestra, backstage team and so many more - thank you and congratulations! 🇫🇷

Tonight brings an end to our special 2025 project, Les Misérables: Let the People Sing!

Back in May we took to the Minack stage to perform our version of Les Misérables, one of eleven versions staged by amateur groups across the UK.

This wonderful endeavour culminated as a representation of our cast members were invited to be part of the special Les Mis finale at the Royal Variety Performance. Amateur performers from across the UK join the stage alongside the French cast from Paris, the West End company and some very special guest stars.

To top it off, Dan Hargreaves reprises his role of Thénardier alongside Matt Lucas.

Tune in tonight for the Royal Variety Performance on ITV and see if you can spot our cast members. The broadcast begins at 7pm, with the Les Miserables segment scheduled for around 9:25pm.

And tomorrow morning, two of our cast members, and mother and daughter duo, Samantha and Charlotte Laity will be on BBC Radio Cornwall just after 8:10am, to talk about their Royal Variety experience.

What a spectacular end to an incredible theatrical year!

After a fantastic week rehearsing and performing for the 2025 Royal Variety Performance, we’re looking forward to reliving the experience in December, with the broadcast date now released as Sunday 21st December, on ITV1 - set your reminders!

Can’t wait until then? Tune in to BBC Radio Cornwall tomorrow morning at 8:20am to listen to two of our cast members, Dan Hargreaves and Adam Ford, chat more about their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We are particularly proud of Dan, who was one of the few selected amateur performers from the 11 national productions to reprise his role at the performance, and perform alongside the professionals! 🇫🇷

Our cast representatives have had a fantastic few days in London, rehearsing for tonight’s recording of the 2025 Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall - keep your eyes peeled for another post confirming the broadcast date soon.

We are so grateful for this wonderful opportunity to showcase Cornwall’s non-professional theatre talent, and we know our cast will do Cornwall proud! ✨

We are very excited to announce that as part of the 40th Anniversary celebrations, 29 of our cast members will be joining fellow ‘Les Misérables: Let the People Sing!’ production members from around the UK, to perform as part of the Royal Variety Performance 2025!

They will be heading up to London next month for the recording at the Royal Albert Hall, with the programme planned for broadcast in December.

At the CDA Awards Evening last night, we were honoured that 'Les Misérables: Let the People Sing!' received a special accolade, highlighting the strength of non-professional theatre across Cornwall - thanks and congratulations to our collaborating groups; Helston Theatre Company, Redruth Amateur Musical and Pantomime Society, St Austell AOS, and Truro Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. Les Misérables also picked up the following Awards and Special Awards:

Last night, 30 of our cast, crew and extended Les Mis family travelled up to the Bristol Hippodrome to watch Bristol’s production of Les Misérables: Let the People Sing!

A collaboration between BLOC Productions with Weston super Mare Operatic Society, BAOS (Bristol Amateur Operatic Society, Bristol Musical Comedy Club and Bath Operatic Society; it was a great evening and production, many congratulations to all involved! 🇫🇷
