Here you can see my Pendulum sculpture at different stages. I was clearing out my studio this week and found this armature with the dry clay still part attached. I removed the dry clay to reveal the metal armature, which keeps the clay in position whilst sculpting. Armatures are central to my practice, they enable me to sculpt dynamic figures; I like to see it as building the figure from inside out, starting with the skeleton and then apply the clay like the muscles on top.
Whilst making this piece, I found the usual square aluminium unsuitable and so had to use steel to weld the armature onto the round bars. I almost threw the armature away but I like it too much so will keep it a bit longer!

This piece was a commission for a mother of a professional gymnast, inspired by the incredible athleticism of gymnasts on the bars. The final piece is in Bronze mounted on marble, height of 75cm.

My sculptures will be on display at Fresh Art Fair at Cheltenham Racecourse this weekend, thanks to . I will be there for the opening night on Thursday 23rd April, 5.30-9pm. DM for free tickets for the event.
Sculpture shown here is Pendulum in bronze. The figure is poised ready to swing forward through the hoops. Inspired by gymnasts on parrell bars, this piece was created as a commission for a mother of a professional gymnast.

'Turning the Page' is currently on show in Cambridge as part of Story of Books exhibition.
For me this sculpture is about how we deal with change and how we move on to new chapters in our lives. It was prompted by my Dad who was reluctant to settle into retirement; something many men seem to struggle with. This sculpture have been popular and there are now only 2 editions left available out of the total of 15 editions.

Sketchbook musings: most of them have yet to be realised- they are either too complicated or waiting to be developed. I love drawing as an immediate part of my process, to explore ideas without the complications of material or sculptural limitations.
I noticed that I have many ideas around 2 people. I like to reflect on how we interact and work on relationships. Our relationships to those around us are key to a happy life, giving us a sense of belonging and creating community.
So share your love with all those around you, not just with a lover this Valentines day.

This sculpture was made as a commission for a couple celebrating 40years together…it was pleasure to work with the Mary & Bert, to design a large wall sculpture that represented their journey together, that importantly is not over. I wanted to sculpt the couple looking out in an embrace, evoking the support and comfort that comes from being in an enduring relationship with that special someone. The figures are available on their own or as a whole wall sculpture, and are a great way to celebrate the achievement of a long standing relationship.

'Time Together' - H35 x W11 x D11cm. Bronze resin in verdigris finish.
'Through the Years' - wall mounted sculpture, H61cm x L110 x D16. Bronze resin, marble resin, oak panel.

I visited foundry yesterday to check the waxes before bronze casting. It's good to check everything has come out of the rubber moulds well and make any final adjustments, before they are covered in a one time ceramic mould for the bronze cast. I look forward to seeing the finished casts in August.
