Spend the day inside a defining chapter of Black British cinema.

This Saturday (28 March) at PRSC, JGPACA and Afrika Eye's one-day cultural programme brings together exhibition and film to explore the radical energy of Black filmmaking in the 1980s, where new visual languages emerged from key movements of resistance & culture.

From 11AM–5PM, experience an exhibition inspired by June Givanni’s Moving Images (1989–90), featuring rare archival materials, posters, and publications with work from Black Audio Film Collective, Sankofa, and CEDDO.

Then from 5:30PM–8PM, the programme continues with a free screening of Euzhan Palcy’s Sugar Cane Alley (Rue Cases-Nègres, 1983)—a landmark film offering a powerful portrait of childhood, resilience, and colonial life in Martinique.

The screening will be followed by a discussion led by JGPACA founder & BAFTA winner June Givanni.

After join us for a special screening of Euzhan Palcy’s Rue Cases-Nègres Sugar Cane Alley (1983) from 17:30–20:00 at PRSC.
