Bedfordshire-born Chris Chopping began his stand-up career in Wales and quickly racked up a brace of new act competition wins. Since then, his dry outlook and hilarious punchlines have established him as a fixture of professional comedy nights across Wales and beyond. He’s also taken seven shows (including three solo hours) to the Edinburgh Festival where his strong material and deadpan persona have garnered him a cult following.

As seen on BBC One, regular contributor to BBC online content ‘SESH’ and as tour support to both Ignacio Lopez & Daniel Muggleton, Chris has recently released a one-hour special on UK Comedy streaming service ‘Next Up…’ and has even turned his hand to stand-up in a foreign tongue, making his welsh-language TV debut for S4C’s stand-up showcase Gwerthu Allan.

February's headliner at The Star and Dove is Burt Williamson, a stand-up comedian, improviser and comedy producer based in Bristol. He’s had two critically acclaimed runs at the Edinburgh Fringe while also having self produced his debut comedy hour 200 IQ Audience Only (No Munters) which is available on YouTube. At once silly and serious, smart and stupid Burt packs dense punchlines with know-it-all smarm and goofy charm to hilarious effect. At the forefront of a new and exciting generation of comics emerging from Bristol, Burt leads the charge on a new wave of talent in British comedy.

Stuart Goldsmith is an internationally award-winning comedian, podcaster and speaker.

His TV credits include performing stand up on BBC’s Live At The Apollo (due to TX in 2025) and Conan, hosted by comedy icon Conan O’Brien.

Stuart’s stand-up career has seen him win several awards, including the Leicester Comedy Festival Award for Best New Show, and take ten solo stand-up shows to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to date. He has performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the New Zealand International Comedy Festival and made multiple appearances at the prestigious, invitation-only festivals Just For Laughs in Montreal and SXSW in Texas. Stuart’s stand up special I Need You Alive is available to watch online.

Stuart specialises in performing stand up relating to the climate crisis. His 2023 solo stand up show Spoilers won the prestigious Best Show 2023 at Leicester Comedy Festival and was one of the best-reviewed shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2023, where he played to sellout audiences and received wide critical acclaim. The Times praised Stuart’s “excellence” and his “intelligent, well-crafted act” whilst The List said: “he’s especially, piercingly funny on the hypocrisies we all indulge in.”

Opening the show is Daniel Coughtrey, with support from local acts and hosted by David Jefferies.

Our headline act this month is Mark Hurman.
Mark has captivated audiences for years with his dry wit, acerbic nature and sharp observations.
Winner of Standup for Cider, twoxtimes winner of th. Smoke and Mirrors gong.
Mark says he 'Worries a lot'.
Audiences say Mark's, 'Looks don't do his comedy justice'.

Opening the night is a long-time favourite of ours and Bristol at large, June Tuesday.

The night will be hosted by David Jefferies, with middle slots from local acts.
