We are spoilt for choice with not one but FOUR Irony murals close to North Street, BS3. The new mural on the exterior wall of displays their typical skilled aerosol use in yet another technically excellent painting. Irony is known for painting animals in urban environments and they say that they do this because of the fractured relationship of humans and animals which they believe can seem amplified in industrial and urban cityscapes. The artist feels that the realtionship between humans and animals is a reflection of our own human interactions and is a mirror to the inequalities that lie at the heart of our society. 'Some of the relationships are scarily similar. Pigeon spikes and homeless spikes serve pretty much the same purpose.' If you would like to read more about their work has an excellent interview which can be googled. And to ease everyone's worries, please don't fret as 'Chips' the peeking seagull from 2018 will be preserved as the owner of the house loves it so much that they want to keep it. The peeking gull, a collaboration with Boe,is a much loved local favourite and the way it plays with its location and space is very much in keeping with Irony's style.

Little Miss Sunshine with a twist by can be seen on North Street,BS3. Will is a hugely successful Brighton designer who usually paints nostalgic cartoon characters with an edge. He overlays his sketches with anatomical features and a skull 💀 can be seen in this mural which gives it an unsettling and uncanny feeling. His merging of familiar wholesome nostalgia with an element of darkness and the surreal jolts the viewer into a reframing of their initial comfortable expectation. Go and check it out and then maybe pop into The Spotted Cow's excellent beer garden where you can think arty thoughts while supping a cold drink! 🌞💀😀 ?

There's a new DANK (Dan Kitchener) mural on North Street, BS3, and it's a stunner! His typically skilled use of city light reflections mirrored in the rain and puddles of a fast paced Tokyo city are used to great effect in this year's Upfest mural. The dazzling dripping use of paint to create an almost refracted light effect is a visual feast . And you would need several return visits to fully explore all the details in the mural as the more you look the more interesting painting techniques ( and maybe even an obsession with light, shade and optics reminiscent of Monet) that you find. His fast paced urban scene has a futurist dystopian feel which unfortunately now seems closer to our current urban world than the worlds of Bladerunner or Cyberpunk. While we would all love to own an original DANK while you are saving up for that original then you can still own your own limited edition coffee container with a special Dan Kitchener design! These great photos were taken by who was on the street art tour when we were lucky enough to find the gate open. This wall is notoriously difficult to photograph because of its angle so we grabbed the opportunity with glee and she got some great shots both of the finished mural and its process.

Quirky qwerts popping up from unexpected locations always make me smile :) I spotted these cheeky chaps from St. Pauls to Bedminster to North Street. Reminiscent of nostalgic 90's childhood favourites (the Fireys from the Labyrinth and the Fraggles) they always appear when you least expect it! Photobombing is a speciality-sorry
