Check out the fourth and final zine from our Artist in Residence, Mereida Fajardo 😍

Mereida has been working with us on Retrofit Street - a collaboration between 6 households on Andover Road, We Can Make and KWMC focused on making existing homes warmer, healthier and cheaper to run. KWMC’s role is creative community engagement, so we’ve worked with Mereida to create four zines which bring people along the retrofit journey.

This final zine shares the 'Retrofit Recipe' - a co-designed recipe of different things residents could do in their own homes to make them warmer, healthier, more spacious, and better for people and planet.

Check it out: kwmc.org.uk/retrofitzines. Physical copies delivered to Andover Road and available to borrow at KWMC!

💚 Special thanks to University of Bath and to the Transforming Homes project funded by Innovate UK. We’re proud to be part of a national network of people doing retrofit differently called Retrofit Reimagined.

What happens when young people are trusted to lead?

At our recent Maker City Showcase, young people designed, developed and delivered every activity themselves, guiding visitors through digital making using our laser cutter, UV printer, vinyl cutter and more. We were blown away by what they achieved!

If you know a young person living/studying in BS4, BS3 5, BS13 & BS14 whose imagination runs wild, we'd love to welcome them to our next cohort of Maker City (age 10-13) and Maker City + (age 14-17). Perfect for future engineers, designers and visionaries. ✨ More info: kwmc.org.uk/youngpeople

💚 Special thanks to our 2025-6 funders: Bristol City Council’s Strategic Partnership (Arcadis, Arup, Mott MacDonald), The Comino Foundation, Medlock Charitable Trust, and The Society of Merchant Venturers.

Our recent Pride Special Community x Arts x Tech Meetup featured Haz Horobin-Worley (artist, creative technologist & Q***r Tech Bristol co-founder) who shared their Q***r Phone (listen to q***r poetry, sounds, and/or leave a voicemail) then led a ‘Dream Net’ workshop, rethinking what the internet could be through relaxed chats, collaging, and zine-making inspired by our mini pop-up LGBTQIA+ zine library.

We imagined all sorts of dream internets together: "plant-powered", "being free to be real messy", "free to people who can't afford it", "de-centralised", "colourful", "public access points", "visual/audio accessibility"... Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a welcoming and inspiring space.💚
