Jouvert, jab jab, my lawd all I can say Is that Sunday was my best ever Carnival experience. I used to.go as a yoot every year but was put off by the crowd bottlenecks, the lack of opportunity to participate, the occasional aggi people, but 2026 was a total contrast We stayed up all night to be sure we didn't miss Jouvert & we were not disappointed. Pure loving vibes, kinetic connection, inclusive, and a feeling of reaching back & forward to ancestral feeling. Obvs pic don't do justice & a sure sign of being immersed is that they are few.
The vibe was so uplifting we carried it on in Bristol!
Thanks to Agnes Spencers Amazing for the food us & the wonderful lady who shared her coconut water.

Saddened to hear of the fatalities that occurred over the weekend. I can only say they do not define the whole weekend.

Late to the party but awed by Percival Everett's reimagining of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn. Percival has made Jim the hero of the story - a runaway slave desperate to write his own story in a world where Black agency is denied. Topical & insightful

My second poetry reading this week. Aish Humphreys & I shared work as part of the exhibition at the Folk house.
this time sharing work including a new poem inspired by an art work in the exhibition. Always a pleasure sharing with q***r community & hearing two open micers make their debut performance.

PC Bloodclaart returned to the scene of the crime well Boomtown. This time it wasn't about chasing every act but pacing & having fun in g&t company. Big up the Boomtown bobbies for such a mad fun time. Typically with charging issues in abundance you can't capture everything so here's a snippet.
Loved the drone show at the conclusion, the wrestling in Old Town so many g&t memories.

Joined & her fellow musicians for a jam in Bedminister. With only an hour remaining before closing & I was yet to board a bus I almost gave up & went hope. So glad I didn't. What fun.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting an Aunt for the first time amongst other family members. With my father's eyes & nose I would have known we were family in a crowded airport. My aunt had not seen my Father since he left Jamaica. Decades had passed.
Auntie sighed by Father's headstone. "Mi never think mi would see you like so. Mi hope mi would see you alive. Her words fell like ash over our gathering..Dad was her brother, the link between siblings, severed by migration & by death.
The political discourse around migration fails to take account of the various bittersweet tales encompassed. Lines broken like softened wood on shares.
At least we have managed reconnection albeit late in life.

well nothing like a bit of sword & saddles to inspire a bit of hexcercise and it didn't involve anything like Nolan's budget

Recap to yesterday's Lament to Liberation a pilgrimage to Bristol organised by Southwark diocese & St. Agnes Church in St. Pauls with moi acting as guide around St Paul's & sights associated with the transatlantic slave trade. A full day indeed & one which brought me back in touch with the days of my doctoral thesis.

Don't encourage them my friend protested as I took out my phone. He had a point but this posse were not going to be dettered - that & I couldn't help but admire their sense of freedom. They were in the moment, in flight, like Icarus
