Little Room Productions is an opera production company, based in Bristol, which showcases work by new, young composers and provides a platform for fresh musical and theatrical talent. Founded in 2010, the company has previously premiered shows both at The Edinburgh Fringe and in London. Currently, we are producing two new operettas to be performed in Bristol in early 2014, using Bristol based dire

ctors, singers and musicians. Little Room aims to make opera accessible for everyone, by using human characters and scripts to bring this traditional and prestigious artform to a fresh audience, as well as presenting opera fans with the aspects of performance that they know and love. We aim to seek out alternative venues, commission new compositions and audition from across to UK to find the very best up-and-coming opera talent.

Last in our composers is Gareth Treseder who wrote Temperance (performed by Chris Pelmore) and The Moon (performed by Hayley Guest).

Welsh composer Gareth Treseder has written numerous sacred compositions alongside his work as a London-based tenor for the Monteverdi Choir, BBC Singers, RSVP Voices, and St Margaret’s Church Westminster Abbey.

A Song Was Heard at Christmas and Blessed be that Maid Marie was recently recorded by the BBC Singers for BBC Radio 3’s “Carols for Breakfast” and published by Boosey & Hawkes. These may be heard and purchased on www.boosey.com. Further details may be found below.

Many of Gareth’s liturgical settings have since been premiered in Cathedrals and churches across the UK, America and Australia. Recent premieres include A Safe Stronghold, a co-commission alongside Lars Schwarze for London’s Temple Church Choir to commemorate the outbreak of World War One, and a liturgical premiere of Never Weather Beaten Sail performed by the choir of St Paul’s Church K Street in Washington DC. Upcoming premieres include Salve Regina, to be performed by the choir of St Helena’s Cathedral in Montana; What Child Is This?, sung by St Margaret’s Church Westminster Abbey Choir; a set of songs based on texts by Joseph Addison for voice and piano entitled Hope: An Addison Cycle, which will be premiered by Eleanor Minney and James Sherlock. In January 2016, Deutscher Chor London will record his SATB arrangement of Mozart’s Sehnsucht nach dem Frühlinge for a CD release of English and German folksong arrangements.

Number 4 we have Jacob Bright!

Jacob Bright is a composer, arranger and producer based in Bristol, UK. Originally from Devon, he moved to Bristol to complete an MA in Composition at Bristol University under John Pickard and Michael Ellison. Following graduation, he has been heavily involved with a number of commercial recording ventures, solo endeavours and prestigious compositional projects. Previous commissions include works for the Cheltenham International Music Festival, St. George’s Hall, Bristol University and Little Room Productions. Soundtrack work has seen him write for Channel 4, the BBC and numerous indie film makers and directors.

His involvement with Little Room Productions has produced a number of critically acclaimed operatic and ballet works. 2014’s ‘The Madness Game‘ received favourable reviews and has established his position within the company’s roster. The follow up collaborative works Arcana parts I and II are planned to be presented at 2015’s Edinburgh Festival following previews in January of the same year. He is also joining forces with Little Room’s Matthew Pearson, acclaimed violinist Diana Yukawa and Area 11 frontman Sparkles* to produce a multimedia ballet experience, Kojiki due for performance in late 2015.

Jake has composed the Devil (performed by Luke Deacon), Tower (Tessa Deterding) and the The World (Ensemble) for Arcana.

Half way through our list of phenomenal composers now and we have James Prideaux!

James began composing and performing from an early age and majored in composition during his undergraduate studies and completed his MA in Composition at the University of Bristol. In 2011, he won the prestigious BUMS Chamber Choir Composition Competition with his setting of Jubilate Deo, later having it performed both in St. George's, Bristol and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin.

Since graduating, James has received a number of commissions; including a commission for international Cellist, Steffan Morris. Other notable performances of James' work include Hiraeth by Cardiff-based Sinfona Newydd during their annual Music festival at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In 2013, James was made resident composer of Gorseinon Youth Choir. Originally from Loughor in Swansea, James is now a Music teacher at Cheam High School, Surrey.

Day Two in our list of wonderful composers and we have our Musical Director, Nevada Summerley!

Nevada Summerley is a composer, pianist, accompanist and teacher - currently in her final year studying Music at the University of Bristol.

She has been composing since her early teens, and had her choral work ‘Aurum Stella’ performed in St Mark’s in Venice. Other compositions such as ‘Homage to the Joyful Heart: A Dedication to Erich Korngold’ have been performed by the University String Orchestra in May last year.

Nevada has been involved with Little Room Productions for two years now, joining the team as a pianist for ‘The Madness Games’, as a composer for ‘Arcana: Part I’ and this year as a composer, pianist and Musical Director for ‘Arcana: Part II’. After graduating, she hopes to take up a place studying a Masters in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Good Morning! Every other day until the show we will post about the talented composers who have spent months writing the pieces for Arcana.

Today we have James Black, currently undertaking a masters in Denmark at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. James has written two pieces for Arcana: Strength performed by Marinella Phillips and The Sun performed by Guy Withers (also featured in the Trailer).

At the age of 16 he joined the National Youth Wind Orchestra on Bass and Eb clarinets. In his third year studying Music at Oxford, he became seriously interested in composition after entering a workshop with Peter Maxwell Davies when a friend pulled out at the last minute. He then studied composition with Philip Cooke for two years and is continuing his studies in Denmark.

Upcoming projects include: a wind quintet for the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition 2015; and the premiere of a solo accordion piece in Poland.
