Headliner: STEVE BUGEJA
Steve Bugeja’s comedy blends meticulously crafted jokes with warm, narrative storytelling, turning everyday anxieties into smart, relatable observations. His persona is that of the self-aware overthinker—earnest, nerdy and quietly self-deprecating—yet his shows often reveal surprising emotional depth without sacrificing laughs. Whether exploring family, ambition or modern relationships, he balances rapid-fire punchlines with heartfelt payoffs that feel authentic rather than sentimental.

A prolific writer, Steve was a key member of the writing team for The Russell Howard Hour (Sky One) and for Iain Stirling’s CelebAbility (ITV2) and has contributed material to Mock the Week (BBC2), 8 Out of 10 Cats (Channel 4) and BBC Radio 4.

Steve won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2013 and has since performed numerous Edinburgh Fringe shows and national tours.

The Comedy Box at Bristol's Hen & Chicken Studio returns in September after the summer break - and what a glorious summer it has been! As the evenings draw in we start to think about how we are going to spend them, and what better reason than having a night of copious laughter in the South West's longest operating comedy emporium.

Saturday nights are Stand Up For The Weekend, a weekly showcase of some of the best acts from the UK comedy circuit. The Hen & Chicken is also known for comedy touring shows from acts out on the road direct from the Edinburgh Fringe, or an overseas comic who has just popped over for a series of dates in the UK.

There are almost 50 shows to choose from this autumn - some have already sold out - so why not have a look and organise a couple of hours of sterling stand up!
