We went to see the latest production by Riddlestick Theatre last night at The Wardrobe Theatre

It’s a haunting, funny, moving period piece that despite being a fictional piece it manages with little effort to capture the idea of the occult, in particular magic rituals, using minimal props too! It’s done through captivating storytelling, wonderful live music and characters that feel plucked from an old murder mystery novel.

it’s a treat for anyone who likes M.R James, Agatha Christie or old tales of magic in the rurals.

It’s only on tonight and tomorrow here in Bristol and I think there’s still tickets.

Highly recommended. 4 👻 out of 5

We don’t get much time to play as adults but play is so good for lowering stress, creativity and fun.

Starting at 7pm we will be out to play til the streetlights come on.

Has anybody walked the Syrens walk?
8 mile walk from Wells to Glastonbury each mile there is a limestone monolith with a bronze bell. Play them all to make up a tune! We started it but went the wrong way and ended up in some corn fields opps we will have to go back. Bit long for a ‘folk on foot’ it’s meant to take 3-5 hours.

Hope you can make Wednesday’s ‘folk on foot’ we know where we are going for that ☺️

The charity that run the allotment site are looking for a musician for their friends and family bbq on Thursday 10th September. Here is what they are looking for

‘Maybe some folk or well known songs to entertain a group of all ages.
Or could be a bit of a workshop/ jamming session if they could bring multiple instruments.
We can offer a musician / band £100 to play at our BBQ which is 6 - 8pm’

It is about the time of year we would be doing an event Windmill Hill City Farm so missing it as this was one of our favourite nights from last year.
It was a magical warm evening with such amazing performances. Hope to do something there again.
Windmill Hill City Farm will be 50 this year. They are having a celebration on September 12th. Hope people can make it and support this wonderful space, we are very lucky to have in South Bristol.

Some books we are reading or have read recently. What are you reading? Would love some book recommendations? Can be anything…. Would like to read some more novels.

Common People: A Folk History of Land Rights, Enclosure and Resistance by Leah Gordon and Stephen Ellcock.
In 1600, 50% of England was common land. It is now 3%.
-hmmm so this is how it happened!

The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer. An economy of gifts and abundance.
-There are other ways of living and this is one of them. Looking at nature as a guide. Loved this book 💚

The book of mysteries by Rebecca Tamas. Part memoir, part nature writing. She looks at following the seasons and the wheel of the year over the clocks, calendars and work. ‘Wild time’ over ‘capitalist time’.
- we love ‘wild time’.

Danny Champion of the world by Roald Dahl
Danny lives with his father in a gypsy caravan in the countryside. They hatch a plan to outsmart an arrogant land owner.
- a cosy read. (Our Winter ritual is to go for a nature walk then watch ‘Danny champion of the world’ and eat veggie sausages sandwiches and soup.) 💚

Prefer a documentary like Juliette of the herbs or Honeyland? Or what about a folk collage feature such as Arcadia? Or a fantasy like Donkey Skin? Or go on an adventure and watch Stand By Me?
