💜🩵 HAPPY CHOCTAW FLAG DAY! 🩵💜

Today, October 16, we celebrate the history, sovereignty and enduring spirit of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma!

On October 16, 1860, the Choctaw General Council, led by Chief George Hudson at Doaksville, passed an act establishing the Great Seal of the Choctaw Nation. Choctaw Flag Day was officially established in November 2020, with the first celebration held in 2021.

💜🩵 DID YOU KNOW WHAT OUR FLAG SYMBOLISES?

🏹 The three arrows honour the three historic Choctaw districts and their great chiefs: Pushmataha, Mushulatubbe and Apukshunabbe.

🏹 The unstrung bow represents a peaceful nation always prepared to defend its people.

💨 The smoking pipe-hatchet represents peaceful alliances and traditional prowess. When the pipe is smoking, we're at peace. When it isn't, we're not.

As a registered member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, my heritage is part of who I am. Both my regalia and the Choctaw flag are made in the Choctaw colours. 💜🩵

I'm proud to be the model for this body art by Project Pixie, featuring the flag of the Choctaw Nation painted on my chest. It's a celebration of my identity and my Choctaw heritage. 💜🩵

🔥 THE FIRE AT THE CENTRE 🔥

Life is a maze,
full of twists and turns,
of bridges to cross
and lessons to learn.

Paths that divide us,
walls that we face,
each of us navigating
our own little maze.

But at the centre,
where the flames burn bright,
there's a fire that dances
in the heart of the night.

Not lost.
Not searching.
Not waiting to be found.

Just burning with purpose,
with both feet on the ground.

For some fear the fire,
some run from the flame,
some spend their whole lives
trying to escape the game.

But fire isn't always destruction.
It isn't always pain.
Sometimes it's passion.
Sometimes it's change.

Sometimes it's the spirit
that refuses to fall,
the spark that survives
when you've weathered it all.

And maybe the maze
was never about the end,
but the paths that we take
and the strength we defend.

Because I don't need a map
to know who I am.

I am the fire.
I am the flame.
And I stand at the centre,
untamed. 🔥

Life is a fleeting dance, a delicate balance of moments that unfold before us, never to return in quite the same way again.

Regret is a bitter pill to swallow, a weight that bears down upon the soul with the burden of missed chances and unspoken words.

So, let us not leave anything for later. Let us seize the moments as they come, with hearts open and arms outstretched to embrace the possibilities that lie before us. For in the end, it is not the things we did that we regret, but the things we left undone, the words left unspoken, the dreams left unfulfilled.

This is personal. I've experienced s*xual coercion both after childbirth and within an abusive relationship. I'm using my art and dark humour to bring painful experiences into the light. If this resonates with you, you're not alone. ❤️

👻 MEET MY BLOODY NIGHTMARE COLLECTION!

Matching ghost tampon earrings! I made one last year, but it was a stud. I've swapped it for a drop hook and made its partner.

Because one haunted tampon clearly wasn't enough! 😂💀

If a stud makes unwanted advances, perhaps it's time to get him off his high horse and hang him out to dry! 🤣🩸

I've given these little ghosts faces because sometimes we need to give our trauma a name, a face and a voice.

After giving birth, while bleeding heavily and passing massive blood clots, I was forced into s*x when my body desperately needed rest and recovery. I've also experienced coercion in an abusive relationship.

Giving in to stop the pressure isn't the same as freely consenting.

Being in a relationship or having children together never entitles anyone to your body.

In my Indigenous worldview, life is sacred. Even in the Bible, God rested after creation.

If creation deserves rest, surely a mother deserves time to heal.

Consent matters regardless of gender. Nobody owes anyone s*x.

🩸 NO MEANS NO. Even in a relationship. Even after childbirth. Even on your period.

🪶🌎💧 INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY 2026
STANDING IN MY ROOTS. BUILDING BRIDGES. SHARING OUR STORIES.

I’m sharing this video from a couple of years ago, reflecting on my journey raising awareness of Indigenous issues and sharing our cultures.

I’m a registered member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, with Cherokee and Chiricahua Apache ancestry. Living in the UK, I’ve worked to stay connected to my roots, find other Native Americans here, and build community through a chat group I created to bring people together.

My work takes many forms: 🪶

💃 DANCE & STORYTELLING: Around 30 years in events and festivals, UK Multi-Hoop Champion in Native American hoop dance, sharing shawl dances, songs, stories, teepee experiences and cultural workshops.

🎨 ART & ACTIVISM: Beadwork, Indigenous art, sculptures, a fire Thunderbird, provocative protest art and my MMIW blood-bath performance. I’ve also challenged the romanticised story of Pocahontas at Comic-Cons, receiving thanks from members of her living family.

💧 WATER & MOTHER EARTH: My Indigenous name, Oka Anumpuli, means “Talking Water.” From pipeline campaigns, oil-pouring burlesque and climate-themed performances to upcycled festival installations, traditional food and the Three Sisters, protecting our land and water runs through my work.

🎶 CULTURE & THE FUTURE: I’m exploring ancestral sounds through contemporary techno with Prophecy Through Music, while developing a healing-focused retreat and Indi-genius Pathways CIC, supporting creativity, cultural exchange, community and environmental projects.

I also raise awareness of Indigenous boarding school history, Land Back, the Indian Child Welfare Act, colonial history and cultural appropriation.

This is about keeping our cultures living, connecting our communities, challenging stereotypes and protecting the world for the seven generations to come.

Water Is Life. Culture is connection. Creativity builds bridges.

🖤 WE ARE THE WEIRDOS, MISTER. BUT WHO DECIDED YOU WEREN'T? 🖤

Too loud. Too quiet. Too sensitive. Too restless. Too distracted. Too much. Not enough.
Funny how the world is always ready to tell us what we're doing wrong, isn't it?
But who decided what right looks like in the first place?

Think about it. Our ancestors needed people who explored the unknown, spotted opportunities, took risks and noticed things others might miss. Different people brought different strengths to the group. Survival wasn't about everyone being exactly the same.
And yet, somewhere along the way, we've become obsessed with fitting people into boxes.
Sit still. Concentrate. Follow the rules. Don't question things. Don't stand out. Don't be too much of anything.
But what if the world needs people who question things? Who imagine differently? Who feel deeply, think creatively, challenge convention and see possibilities where others see obstacles? That doesn't mean every struggle is a superpower, or that mental health difficulties aren't real. It means we can acknowledge the struggles without treating the person as though they're the problem.

This World Mental Health Day, maybe we should stop asking why some people don't fit the mould and start asking whether the mould was ever made to fit everyone.
Different isn't automatically better. It isn't automatically worse, either.
It's different.
And who decided that was wrong?

We are the weirdos, mister. But who decided you weren't? 🖤 Happy World Mental Health Day ✨xx

A little throwback to my time at Cascade Masquerade in Morocco 🇲🇦✨

This place really is PARADISE. 🌴💦 Waterfalls everywhere, monkeys in the trees, fruit growing around you, donkeys taking you down the hill, beautiful little shacks, incredible food, different stages throughout the day, and Bedouin musicians travelling from the desert to share their music. Truly magical. ❤️

The festival isn’t running this time around, although some of the crew are there having a jolly, and I was invited along too! It would have been lovely, but I just couldn’t make it this time.

Instead, I’m already looking ahead to the next one. Through Indigenous Pathways CIC, I’m making plans for a cultural tour that will include a retreat in Spain, performance skills, creative activities and the opportunity for participants to perform at an international festival like Cascade Masquerade. 🔥🌍

I’ll be making a video of my experience there last year as a little teaser, so you can see the magic for yourselves and get an idea of what you could be part of. ✨
